Abstract/Summary:
The objective of this research is to investigate and develop a methodology which can be utilized to evaluate the feasibility of developing a network of Intermodal Freight Transportation Facilitation Centers (IFTFC) within the confines of a region. The modelling methodology utilizes Markovian Decision Theory to evaluate a region's capability of developing and sustaining a network of IFTFC's for handling freight movement. The model examines the region's current transportation and demographic composition and then tests different intermodal development options for feasibility and effect upon the region.
