Abstract/Summary:
"Anarchy and Order: A Social Physics of International Relations" asks questions about the scientific analysis of the of global politics. It examines how and why political science conceptualizes global politics under an a priori assumption of political order when anarchy is also a constant variable in these political relations. It discusses how has this assumption of nascent order shaped scientific inquiry? And it asks: Do a priori assumptions make it possible or impossible to have a truely scientific inquiry into political phenomena? If scientific explanations are feasible in the political sphere, which scientific methods might be helpful in their creation?;In the process of examining these complex and abstract issues, "Anarchy and Order" looks at the construction of both ancient and modern scientific explanations, their underlying logic and axioms, and the age-old love-hate relationship between science, philosophy and social science. It explores the implications of applying new supercomputing-based methodologies to global politics, and argues in support of a type of "computational synergetics" which might provide new insights to the study of global politics.
