Selected predictors of examination for professional practice in psychology scores among graduates of Western Conservative Baptist Seminary's doctoral program in clinical psycholog

The purpose of this study was to identify a select set of variables which would, when in linear combination, adequately predict scores on the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), among graduates of Western Conservative Baptist Seminary's (WCBS) doctoral program in clinical psychology. The six predictor variables--type of study preparation for EPPP, grade point average in psychology classes, Graduate Record Examination Test scores, undergraduate psychology major, age when EPPP was first taken, and gender--were used to construct a multiple linear regression model to predict EPPP score from the graduate's first attempt on the EPPP. The population was comprised of 52 males and 15 females (N = 67) who graduated from WCBS between 1980 and 1990. Data was collected via a questionnaire-by-mail survey as well as archival material provided by the Office of the Registrar at WCBS.;Using the stepwise method, none of the six predictor variables entered the regression equation. A forced-entry analysis resulted in a non-significant regression equation in which the variables accounted for 14.3% of the variance.;The results of the study indicate that predictor variables chosen were not able to accurately predict the EPPP scores for the population studied. Issues are discussed which may have contributed to the inadequacy of this model, implications drawn from the research, and suggestions made for future research on predicting EPPP scores among doctoral graduates of clinical psychology programs are also presented.
