Abstract/Summary:
Research into the use of information technology in business organizations have identified relationships between certain user factors, organizational factors, and information technology factors. The purpose of this study was to apply the results of this research to the field of athletic administration.;Athletic administrator variables included; (a) demographic characteristics, (b) attitude towards computers, and (c) involvement in the design and implementation of information systems. The information technology factors used were; (a) user information satisfaction, (b) the impact of the information technology, and (c) the organizational effectiveness of the athletic department.;Results of this study indicated that athletic administrators have a positive attitude towards computers, are satisfied with the information systems used, and believe that information systems help increase the organizational effectiveness of the athletic department, though they are not very involved in the information systems. This study also found that some organizational characteristics of the athletic department could be used to predict; (a) the impact of information technology, (b) user information satisfaction, and (c) organizational effectiveness. A positive relationship was found between athletic administrator attitude and information satisfaction, involvement and organizational effectiveness, and the impact of information technology and organizational effectiveness. A negative relationship was observed between athletic director involvement and senior administrator information system satisfaction.;Increased understanding of the factors that influence information technology success and effective utilization will aid athletic administrators in the management of information technology. The information generated by this study will help them understand how they influence the success of information technology and how to utilize their particular organizational characteristics and resources to maximize the effectiveness of information technology.
