This report details the implementation of an employer follow-up study that was conducted by the engineering technology department at California Polytechnic State University in December 1981, to determine the quality of the academic preparation, peer and manager acceptance and career opportunities of the department's graduates. Of the 180 questionnaires mailed, 132 were completed and returned.;The major findings of this study indicate that 92% of the graduates have the job title of engineer, manager, supervisor or company officer, and only one has the job title of technologist. The majority of the graduates (73%) have the same assignments and responsibilities as BS engineering graduates. The employers stated that from a technical viewpoint 54% of the department's graduates have the same qualifications, and 18% have better qualifications than BS engineering graduates. Only 4% of the employers felt the chances of promotion might be limited because of the engineering technology degree. Every one of the 132 employers surveyed would hire another engineering technology graduate from California Polytechnic State University. |
