Abstract/Summary:
Many adult foster care facilities employ staff members with little or no educational background in caring for those with complex medical and mental health issues. A comprehensive training program was developed to help staff members develop a stronger knowledge base in this regard with hopes to improve resident care, job satisfaction, and feelings of professionalism. The results of this one year project indicate that knowledge base in medical and mental health challenges experienced by residents improved among staff members. Further, job satisfaction improved, and staff retention increased.
