Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to develop a framework for assessing political risks and opportunities. Such a framework was developed based on Han S. Park's paradigm of human needs and political development. Since the hierarchy of needs is considered, more or less, universal, the Parkian paradigm is applicable across nations. Through this framework firms can determine areas of opportunities as well as risks. In this respect the framework can be both country-specific and industry-specific.;The framework was then applied to examine its utility for a particular case of India. For the period 1950-1984, it was found that the framework is useful in offering a general guideline for international business to assess areas of opportunities and political risks by identifying the underlying political process of change.
