Green Development Behavior Of Industrial Enterprises

China is a vastly populated country with very complicated environmental issues.While promoting economic development,the organizational behavior of industrial enterprises can easily result in negative environmental impacts.Although China has made great efforts to reduce industrial pollution,it remains difficult to fully eliminate industrial pollution.The existing literature has not yet fully explicated the green development behavior of industrial enterprises and its influencing factors,or the characteristics of the green development performance of industrial enterprises.Therefore,it is necessary to fully evaluate the mechanisms of interaction between the influencing factors,green development behavior,and green development performance of industrial enterprises,as well as to provide targeted improvement strategies.There are four main scientific questions in this dissertation,as follows: Firstly,what are the factors that influence the performance of green development behavior in industrial enterprises? Secondly,how can the green development behavior and performance of industrial enterprises be scientifically and effectively measured and verified? Thirdly,by what mechanism do the influencing factors,green development behavior,and green development performance of industrial enterprises operate?Fourthly,how can the performance of green development behavior of industrial enterprises be improved?The main research contents of this dissertation are as follows: Follow the logical sequence of "practice – theory – practice",and adopt grounded theory methods to reveal the influencing factors and performance of the green development behavior of industrial enterprises in the process of practical research;use exploratory factor analysis to design measurement scales for the green development behavior and performance of industrial enterprises;use the partial least squares structural equation model to verify the mechanism of green development behavior and performance of industrial enterprises;use the SWOT analysis method to construct a performance improvement strategy model based on the green development behavior of industrial enterprises in order to reveal strategies for improving performance.The main research conclusions of this dissertation are as follows:(1)The conceptual model constructed by grounded theory methods reveals the connotation,antecedents and consequences of the green development behavior of industrial enterprises,namely,that the green development of industrial enterprises takes place in an organization through the manifestation of the green development behavior of industrial enterprises,that is,clean production behavior and green supply chain management practices.The external factors influencing the green development behavior of industrial enterprises comprise three aspects: policy and institutional environment,market environment,and public supervision.The internal factors impacting green development behavior include two aspects: enterprise tangible resources,and enterprise intangible resources.The occurrence of green development behaviors in industrial enterprises leads to consequences,which are specifically manifested in the green development performance of industrial enterprises,including three aspects: corporate economic performance,corporate social performance,and corporate environmental performance.(2)The Green Development Behavior and Performance of Industrial Enterprises scale(70 items)has very good reliability and validity,including the internal factor subscale(13 items)and the external factor subscale(23 items),the Industrial Enterprise Green Development Behavior subscale(18 items),and the Industrial Enterprise Green Development Performance subscale(16 items).(3)In the context of China,corporate tangible resources,corporate intangible resources,market environment,public supervision,policy and institutional environment all have significant positive effects on the green development of industrial enterprises.Among the various factors,the positive effect of corporate intangible resources on the green development behavior of industrial enterprises is the strongest,while the positive effect of the policy and institutional environment on the green development behavior of industrial enterprises is not as significant as that of other factors.The green development behavior of industrial enterprises has a significant positive effect on green development performance(i.e.,corporate social performance,corporate economic performance,and corporate environmental performance).(4)The performance improvement strategy model derived from a SWOT analysis and empirical results reveals four levels of improvement strategies with respect to the green development performance of industrial enterprises.Furthermore,these strategies operate with respect to the following five aspects: Factors regarding the mechanism of green development behavior of industrial enterprises,i.e.,policy and institutional environment;market environment;public supervision;corporate tangible resources;and corporate intangible resources factors.The main innovations of this dissertation are as follows:First,based on a qualitative research paradigm based on grounded theory methods,this dissertation constructs a conceptual model of green development behavior and performance of industrial enterprises,which makes up for the lack of interpretation of the existing literature on the influencing factors and performance of green development behavior of Chinese industrial enterprises.Second,this dissertation provides a measurement tool for scientifically and effectively exploring the influencing factors and mechanism of industrial enterprises' green development behavior and performance,as well as conducting empirical research.This not only further improves the research content of green development,but also provides reference for other researchers to reveal the mechanism of green development behavior and performance of industrial enterprises in non-Chinese contexts.Thirdly,based on the results of the empirical research and the SWOT analysis,this paper systematically proposes strategies for improving the green development performance of Chinese industrial enterprises,which provides a new way of thinking about strategy research.
