With far-reaching social and cultural significance and artistic aesthetic value,Hakka architectural color paintings in northeastern Guangdong,containing profound historical and cultural connotations as well as reflecting the distinctive artistic characteristics of the local people,have unique artistic images and creative forms.Aiming at the lack of research on architectural color paintings in the Hakka region of northeastern Guangdong,and on the basis of the legends and visiting materials taken in years of field investigation and taking the architecture color painting in the late Qing Dynasty as the object of discussion,this thesis reveals the performance rules and style characteristics and excavates the artistic forms and cultural significance of some color paintings by analyzing the living background,form,pattern,color,theme and other artistic features,so as to deepen the study of Hakka culture and protect regional cultural heritage.This thesis consists of five chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces the living background and the remains investigation of the Hakka architectural color paintings in the northeast of Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty.The first section introduces the living background of Hakka architectural color paintings in Northeast Guangdong from the aspects of natural environment,human history,ethnic character and late Qing society,which is a key factor affecting the formation of regional characteristics of Hakka architectural color paintings.The second section focuses on the investigation of Hakka architectural relics in the late Qing Dynasty in northeastern Guangdong and the distribution of color paintings in architecture,which shows the characteristics of the numerous and widely-spread architectural relics and the distribution of color paintings in architecture of their own.The second chapter is a detailed analysis of the artistic features of the Hakka architectural color paintings in the northeast of Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty,including their decorative patterns,modules and styles.The first section describes the close relationship between the composition of these paintings and the shape of specific building components,so as to show the modules and the designs of these component color paintings not only fully take the characteristics of the local culture and people into account,but also the protection of objective practicability of the building parts.The second section mainly analyzes the combination and form characteristics of the decorative patterns of architectural color paintings,and studies the details of the pool shape and decorative ribbon pattern in gables,eaves and beams.The third section mainly combs the common styles of the local components such as the wooden piers and the sparrow braces,thus highlighting the artistic characteristics of Hakka architectural color paintings of their own.The third chapter discusses the creation forms,characteristics,colors,and the manifestations of the local color paintings of Hakka architecture in northeastern Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty.The first section introduces the common creation forms,especially the coexistence of "imitation of the ancient ideas" and "conception of drawing from life".The second section introduces the general rules of color design,in which warm tones are dominant and weak ones take the second place.The third section focuses on the drawing characteristics of local color paintings,analyzes the artistic characteristics of the various images and the aesthetic forms,and the expression technique such as the symbolic implication,allusion representation,literal reference and so on.The fourth chapter mainly introduces the classification and significance of Hakka architectural color paintings in Northeast Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty.These paintings are rich in themes,which are divided into three categories: daily life,auspicious folklore and spiritual interest.On the basis of fieldwork and literature research,they are analyzed separately.This part also compares the relationship between these artistic images and the cultural situation of northeastern Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty,from which we can understand part of the daily life and spiritual world of the local people.This is also an important aspect of highlighting the regional characteristics of architectural color painting art.The last chapter is a case study.This part compares the artistic differences between the cloud patterns in Wei-Jin period and the muscleman portraits of Hu people in Hakka architectural color paintings in Northeast Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty.It also compares them with the early related images unearthed from archaeology,trying to explore the inherent historical and cultural origins between them,so as to provide a new perspective for the study of the origin and development of Hakka clan.
