For domestic rare earth permanent magnet manufacturers,the "patent barrier" of rare earth permanent magnet technology is a heart disease of China's rare-earth industry.In recent years,the control system of Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Motor(REPMM)has been upgraded,and it has been widely used in wind power,pure electric vehicles,hybrid cars,industrial robots,refrigeration equipment,CNC machine tools and other fields,becoming the "heart" of intelligent manufacturing.Will the development of China's REPMM and its downstream industries such as intelligent manufacturing still face "patent barriers" and foreign technological monopoly? How to grasp the development trend and technological opportunities of this technology,and break through the problem of "stuck neck" in key core technologies? How to improve the technological innovation capabilities of Chinese enterprises and enhance global technological competitiveness? These are the common focus of current enterprise R&D personnel and scientific research workers in our country.This article mainly uses the patent map analysis method to carry out statistical analysis on the global REPMM patent information,and organizes it into a visual map for analyzing and interpreting industrial technological innovation.By analyzing and interpreting these patent charts,we can gain information on technology development trends,the evolution of technological influence,and important innovation subjects.At global analysis,patent analysis is combined with knowledge network analysis,and a multi-dimensional perspective of "technology-inventor-innovation subject-country" is used to deeply explore the global innovation trend of REPMM technology.At domestic analysis,the spatial innovation pattern and innovation clusters of this industry in China are analyzed with the help of relevant analysis indicators of spatial geography,and propose countermeasures to promote the technological innovation capability and industrial upgrading of Chinese enterprises with specific cases.The main innovation results and conclusions are summarized below:(1)This study finds the global patent citation network(PCN)of REPMM has the characteristics of a small world.A few key patents can influence many other patents in a short period of time and lead the development of key technologies.This network has the characteristics of coexistence of overall sparseness and local aggregation,and the internal structure of the network is stable.It is suitable for analyzing the evolution of patented technology by the algorithm of the main path.The star effect of large enterprises makes their patents get more citations in PCN.The number of patent family has a significant positive effect on the formation of citation relationship for the patent.Meanwhile,the citation interval reached the maximum of the positive promotion effect in 4-6 years,indicating that the technology is in a rapid iteration stage.(2)This study finds the global REPMM technology has entered a period of rapid development,and the inventors from five countries(Japan,the United States,China,Germany and South Korea)have submitted 91.23% patent applications.The LSTM model predicts that China's patent filings will continue to grow,while Japan will remain stable.China and Korea are strengthening their innovation capabilities in their local markets.Compared with Japan,the United States and Germany,the patent layout of China's REPMM is highly biased towards the local market,and the global layout of patents needs to be strengthened.During 2011-2020,the absolute technological influence of China in the world has increased dramatically,forming a competitive pattern of global technological innovation in REPMM dominated by both China and Japan.However,the current situation of Japan as the largest technology spillover country and China as the largest technology absorber has not yet changed.(3)This study finds the technological innovation hotspots in REPMM are evolving from motor manufacturing to motor control systems and applications.From the perspective of the industry chain,the more active fields in the innovation of REPMM are mainly the preparation of permanent magnet materials,large mining with crushers,coal mills,inverter air conditioning compressors,permanent magnet direct drive wind turbines,electric vehicles,high speed rail with drive motors,etc.Among them,the permanent magnet technology innovation of new energy vehicle drive motor,Japanese enterprises still have made a lot of patent layout in recent years,and technology innovation is very active,it is worth to draw the attention of our enterprises.The current high-impact technology mainly comes from Chinese universities,and its innovation hotspots are mainly the high-precision detection of the rotor state of REPMM,high-precision control of motors and control strategies.(4)This study finds the top 20 innovation subjects in Japan,the United States and Germany are all enterprises,while universities account for 14 of the top 20 dominant innovation agents in China.In the technology diffusion network,Japanese innovation agents occupy the core position and are most closely connected.In contrast,few enterprises in China are integrated into the global technology innovation network and remain in a marginal position.Technology diffusion in China's universities is mainly limited to inter-university flows,and their innovations receive little attention from enterprises.China's technological innovation in REPMM in wind power and refrigeration and air conditioning has a clear tendency to catch up and has some international competitiveness.However,there is still a lack of competitive enterprises in the fields of permanent magnet materials for new motors and drive motors for new energy vehicles.Japan's innovation cooperation network is dominated by inter-company cooperation,forming several innovation sub-networks led by large enterprises interconnected and have their own distinctive aggregation characteristics.The innovation networks in China and Korea have obvious characteristics of industry-academia-research cooperation,but the networks are small in scale.(5)This study finds three types of technological innovation subjects in China show significant spatial clustering characteristics in two regions,the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta.By sorting out the shortcomings in the development of REPMM technology in China,we propose to take REPMM technology as a breakthrough in the innovative development of China's rare earth industry,promote the integration of REPMM industry,develop innovative industrial clusters,form knowledge innovation alliances,strengthen cooperation between industry,university and research institutes,deeply involve intellectual property experts and teams in patent layout,and establish a global REPMM technology intellectual property information service platform,actively guide enterprises to carry out overseas patent layout and other countermeasure suggestions.
