"Records and Maps of Xinjiang", written by Wang shunan in the late Qing Dynasty provides a comprehensive description on the history, geography and folk customs of Xinjiang province. It is an important material to study the history and culture of Xinjiang. In this paper, the main object of the study is the version of "Records and Maps of Xinjiang", and some of the issues related to it. This paper will first discuss the compilation background, process and something about the author and the book itself. When "Records and Maps of Xinjiang" was being compiled, the Qing government was in both internal and external problems, as political corruption, a popular uprising surging, Russia and the United Kingdom's aggression against the territory of Xinjiang. All of these had an impact on the content of "Records and Maps of Xinjiang". The Qing government had taken some active measures to these things, and chose some ideal persons to compile the Record. Most of them were the government officials, who had both management experiences and enough knowledge. Wang Shunan hired them to the Annals Bureau of Xinjiang to write "Records and Maps of Xinjiang". In the middle of Qing Dynasty, the study on the History of Northwest rose up. Till the late Qing Dynasty a large number of research results had been accumulated. Officials serving in Xinjiang and the intellectuals who were sent to Xinjiang left many poetry and travel notes, which provided lots of material to the compilation. In addition, the reform of the Qing Dynasty in Xinjiang on promoting culture also accumulated a large number of documents, which were very important to the compilation of "Records and Maps of Xinjiang". There were many writers of "Records and Maps of Xinjiang", but very few information of them and the compilation process, so there are not many study results on these. This paper has collected a lot of information to study the writers, such as Yuan Dahua, Wang Shunan, Song Bolu, Zhong Guangsheng, etc. And also discuss some issues on the Compilation, such as the setting of Xinjiang Annals museum, the style of the records, and the process of compilation, etc. Some simple exposition of the content and value also has been made. Secondly, the paper will discuss the version of "Records and Maps of Xinjiang". There are five versions now, which are Annals Bureau of Xinjiang version, Xinjiang government bookstore version, Oriental studies version, Bureau of Constitutional checking version, manuscript, and some pamphlets. These versions are all valuable to the study of the writers and compilation process of "Records and Maps of Xinjiang".
