The paper analyzes the rooting cause of formation and evolution of Chinesetraditional landscape paintings through the digital keyword research method,particularly the areas of primitive historical concepts and theories for researchers inthe history of fine arts. By means of the methodology from digital research ofhumanistic studies, the three ancient painting theories were analyzed: Jinghao'sBIFAJI, Guoxi's LINQUANGAOZHI, and Hanzhuo's SHANSHUICHUNQUANJI.The basic rules of expressing landscape painting were concluded. It was found thatthe formation and evolution of landscape paintings are synchronized with the ideas ofprinciple of nature in Neo-Confucianism. Therefore, it draws a conclusion thatChinese traditional landscape paintings are underlay by Neo-Confucian ideas of orderand pursuit of virtue.
