In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic period,the changes of society opened the national imagination of Chinese intellectuals,and then promoted their modern nation-state consciousness,which lead to the birth of Chinese modern drama.and pursuit of modernity.After the failure of Melioration of Drama in Late-Qing Dynasty,the appearance of modern drama heralded a totally new form of art was born in China.This thesis chooses the angle of nation-state,to study the development of modern drama in the early 20th century.Under the influence of the nation-state analysis of the modern imagination,how to reflect the era of the early drama,social,and human reality,and how was it influenced from Western Drama,and the realization of the internal restructuring of traditional opera,and how to give shape through the gradual transformation of Dramatic Arts preliminary construction.The main research method of this thesis is to sort the theater phenomenon(including writing in text and performance on stages)of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,seizing the classic phenomenon which mostly embodied the characteristics of the times,from the relationship between transition and creation,to grasp the meaning and spirit among people,society and realistic lives of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China era,and to explore the connection of the early drama of early modern society and the lives.The relationship between theater and the modern nation-building,that is how it is integrated into the national theater building program among the nation?It plays what role in the formation of national identity and national consciousness in?If the "nation" is indeed an "imagined community",we are bound to ask:What is the imagination,what kind of culture through theater,a symbol to imagine and imagine what has caused such a result and impact.This thesis includes four chapters,each respectively focuses on the four representative distinctive drama clubs,containing Spring Willow Group which emphasis on the tendency of artistic pursuit,Tian Zhi drama club which focusing on the revolutionary propaganda,Xin Min drama club which was most commercially oriented,and the Nan Kai campus drama which holding the pursuit of realistic drama club.Each chapter solutes these questions:What is the purpose and the advocates to follow of the community members,how did they in terms of subject matter reflects the nation-state imagination,what aesthetic features in the performance process,these aesthetic characteristics of how to build a modern nation Drama Art Form?Depending on the different community theater phenomena exhibited by the unique aesthetic form,from various angles plot structure,narrative,language,performers and other forms of analysis were summarized their artistic creation.All in all,this thesis is a comprehensive study through theatrical phenomenon of the I the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China period drama from the subject(reflection on the imagine of the nation-state)to the art(the aesthetic construction).
