A Corpus-based Stylistic Analysis Of Scientific Chinese

This is a corpus-based style analysis on scientific Chinese languge,which is style cognition and domain adaptation oreinted.In order to study the style of scientific Chinese,a Scientific Chinese corpus of more than 120,000,000 Chinese characters(150,000,000 symbles including punctuation marks)is constructed,which is POS annotated.The corpus consists of 4 sub-corpora,ie the scientific title coprpus,the scientific abstract corpus,the scientific text corpus of different categories,and a reference corpus of non-scientific texts.The former 2 sub-corpora is randomly extracted from CNKI database,precisely,the titels and abstracts of CSSCI,El,and SCI articles.The 3rd sub-corpus is the conbination of self-collected scientific texts and parts of Fudan Corpus for text categorizing exercise.And the reference corpus consists of 2 parts,one is political texts from the People's Daily,the other is a corpus of literature of mainly novels.From the perspective of coginitive categorization and theory of functional lingusitics,the thesis ananlyzed the style of sceienfic Chinese based on the corpus.In order to describe the stylistic features of Scientific Chinese in details,the thesis is divided into three main aspects,titles,abstracts and trunk texts.In the analysis of the above three aspects,the author focused on 4 types of stylistic elements respectively,including phonetics,lexicalogy,syntax,and text(discourse).In the course of analysing,the author adopts a comprehensive approach of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis.Based on the data retrieved,the author contrasted the lingusitic differences between titles,s and text of scientic Chinese;besides,the stylistc difference between social science and natural science,and that between scientific style,political editorial style,and literature style were contrasted.In general,Scientific Chinese itself is a big category,consists of many sub-categories.The stylistic features of scientific titles,abstracts,and text constitute the stylistic features of the style of scientific Chinese.Chinese of Scientific style take on the freatures of being dignified,concise,practical and logical,etc.But the style of scientific Chinese sub-categories includes social science style and natural science style;the twain styles resembles each other in many aspects,but differ from each other as well.Via the data and the analysis,the natural scientific style is the prototypical category of scientific style,and style of social sciences is atypical category of scientific style;they differ in the titles,s,and texts;but there is no clear boundary between each other;in the stylistic elements of phonetics,lexicology,syntax,and texts,they share many similarities of membership in a same category,which are radically different from political editorial style,and literature style.The thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the research background and literature review;the second chapter,based on the title corpus,the stylistic features of scientific Chinese titles were analysed;the third chapter is a comparative analysis of the stylistic features of Chinese abstracts based on the abstract corpus;the fourth chapter,based on the corpus of scientific texts,the general stylistic features of scientific Chinese texts;And the fifth chapter is a summary of the research fruits of each chapter,including some regrets and the future research prospect.
