A Contrastive Study Of Cohesion In Russian And Chinese Scientific Text

It is very common to make a contrast between different people and different things, and contrastive study is a new trend in the language study. Since the cohesion theory was first proposed by Halliday and Hasan in 1976, there has been lots of research on the cohesion theory. In recent years, there are more and more dissertations and monographs on the subject, but most of them are researches on the comparison of the cohesion devices between English language and Chinese language, and few are on the text cohesion of Russian language and Chinese language. Moreover, whether in English or in Chinese, the research on the literature style is paid much attention to, but the scientific style is neglected. At present, in China, the research on Russian and Chinese language is still at the stage of the stylistic characteristics and the complex syntax. There are few researches on the scientific texts, especially the comparison between the cohesion of Russian texts and that of Chinese texts. The scientific language has its own special characteristics different from other languages; as a result, there are different characteristics of the text cohesion. This thesis makes a contrastive study of text cohesion in Russian and Chinese language.Through the analysis of many examples, the cohesion devices of both Russian and Chinese are pointed out in the thesis. Based on the data statistics, the comparison and contrast is made between the cohesion devices of Russian scientific language and that of Chinese language. And the similarities and differences of the cohesion devices in Russian and Chinese scientific texts are summarized, and the underlying reasons are analyzed, especially for the differences. One of important purposes of the contrastive study is to instruct the language communication. The comparison of the cohesion between the Russian and the Chinese scientific texts can help readers get related information more exactly to the maximum extent when reading and translating science and technology document.
