The prosperity and development of Taoism promoted the fairy belief permeated into various social strata,which not only influenced the public's cognition of fairy,but also deeply influenced the spiritual thoughts of the ancient scholar-bureaucrat stratum.Under the influence of Taoism,there are not only immortal biographies which fully interpret Taoist thoughts,but also many strange stories which contain rich Taoist knowledge.The novels before Tang dynasty is a window of multi-culture,as far as Taoism and the novels of the pre-Tang dynasty are concerned,in terms of ideological content,Taoist fairy belief,goddess worship,eating theory,the belief in transcending into immortals through death,theory of ghosts and spirits,as well as fairyland thought and so on,all have rich performance in novels.This paper mainly studies Taoism and the novels of the pre-Tang dynasty by using above topics,and around these topics from the perspective of the doctrine of Tao,scholar thought and folk culture and other aspects carry through in-depth discussion.The thesis includes the introduction and nine chapters,the first chapter is an overview of the development of the novel and Taoism before Tang dynasty,the part that begins Chapter 2 and ends with Chapter 7 is central of the whole article.The second and the third chapters mainly focus on the Taoist belief in immortals.In Chapter 2,the belief of Taoist immortals is discussed in detail,it also includes the exploration of the basic characteristics of Taoist immortal image.The belief in Taoist immortals is a wide-ranging issue,it not only discusses the formation of Taoist immortal belief and the construction process of Taoist immortal system,but also analyzes the moral factors such as goodness,filial piety,loyalty and so on.In addition,Taoism especially after the immortal Taoism in Wei and Jin dynasties,in the doctrine of Tao,the requirement for mortal immortality include not only congenital conditions,but and special emphasis on the acquired diligence,thus produced the content of the test in Taoism,these content are widely reflected in novels.Finally,it should be emphasized that the religious and sanctified fairy images created by Taoism and the secularized immortal images in the eyes of the secular public formed a contradiction between the inner and outer interpretation of the immortal images in Taoism,this contradiction is also a focus of this chapter.Chapter 3 mainly explains the fairy belief in novels,taking fairy novels in different periods as examples,to explore the concept of immortals,the way of immortal,the evolution process of immortal image and its reasons.In addition,it also taking the the geographical nature science fiction novels before Tang dynasty as an example to discuss the evolution of the fairy world.From Chapter 4 to Chapter 9,each chapter is devoted to a topic,the Chapter 4 focuses on Taoist female worship and female culture,also probes into the inner relationship between the love story of the goddess and the fairy,the Taoist fairy and the Shangqing Taoist Sect's meditation method of "thought-holding".The Chapter 5 focuses on the theory of taking food in Taoism,and explores the content and changes of taking food reflected in the novels before the Tang dynasty.The Chapter 6 focuses on the concept of life and death in Taoism,to examine the Taoist understanding of the relationship between form and spirit,life and death.It is also used to explore the resurrection story and its cultural significance in the novels beforeTang dynasty.The Chapter 7 is devoted to the theory of Taoist spirit and ghosts and ghost stories,including the discussion about Taoist spells and the presence or absence of immortals.The Chapter 8 focuses on the belief in transcending into immortals through death,also investigate the content the belief in transcending into immortals through death in pre-Tang novels.The Chapter 9 takes the Taoist fairyland theory as the center,explains the Taoist "blessed places" and the theory of "famous mountains are fairyland",it also analyzes the characteristics of fairyland and its unique space-time characteristics.
