Identity Writing Strategy Of Doris Lessing's Creation

Since the middle and late 20 th century,with the two world wars destroying people's last insistence on reason and belief,the integrity and unity of human subjectivity has been deconstructed or even cancelled by subconsciousness,language structure,discourage rights and so on.The continuity and integrity of identity are also in crisis after the breakdown of subjectivity as the core of identity.Moreover,with the economic globalization and the continuous development of the network media,large-scale immigration and frequent cultural exchanges make the identity of the ethnic,national and cultural with clear boundaries more dangerous.It is in this context that identity has become a hot issue of constant statement and reflection.Identity means,on the one hand,the sense of belonging acquired by eliminating the differences between self and others,emphasizing difference and passivity,with nominal meaning.On the other hand,it focuses on identity,i.e.giving meaning to identity by confirming and internalizing the identity of the other in the self or group,and emphasizing the subjectivity of a subject with the meaning of a verb.Literature writers and readers,as individuals living in the context of globalization and post-colonialism,are also facing the problem of identifying their own identity.How to maintain the cultural identity of individuals or groups in the tide of globalization and how to obtain the equality and dignity of identity in the context of post-colonialism?Meanwhile,literature,as the main position of cultural communication,is likely to reflect on the unequal relationship between different cultural identities and become an accomplice of identity oppression.Therefore,in this era,identifying the identity problem in literature has become an important part of reflecting on the identity problem.Lessing began to write novels in 1950.Her writing about identity not only embodies the characteristics of the times of identity writing in literature,such as the inter-identity writing and the constructive realization of identity discourse,but also pays full attention to the hot issues in the context of the times,such as post-colonial identity construction,female identity politics,marginal identity writing and so on.As far as Lessing's basic strategy of writing identity is concerned,she also carries the theoretical consciousness of form exploration of modern and post-modern literature,such as the strategic significance of space narration,body narration and narrative means to identity writing.This thesis chooses to explore Lessing's literary creation from the perspective of identity writing,precisely because of the great practical significance of the identity issue in the context of the current era and Lessing's active and sensitive response to this issue in her creation.Moreover,based on the existing research of Lessing's creation,it is found that the researches on Lessing's identity writing are mostly from what is the result of identity writing,that is What kind of character identity is constructed in Lessing's novels.And few people discuss what strategies Lessing adpopts to write character identity in her novels.This is the research angle of this thesis: the study of identity writing strategies in Lessing's novels.In the first chapter of this thesis,the connotation of "identity/identity" is defined,and the core of "identity/identity" ——the fluid continuum of the subject's viewpoint.Then it discusses the two main contexts of "identity/identity".They are the vision of globalization and the context of post-colonialism.The common consequence of the vision of globalization and the context of post-colonialism is the hegemony and oppression of the strong culture on the weak culture,which makes the weak culture appeal for and demand the equality and dignity of its own cultural identity.Thus,the identity politics of striving for identity equality appears.This thesis discusses the narrative tradition of "identity/identity" in literature from the perspectives of author,character and reader in the next section.Lessing's viewpoint of "identity/identity" is mainly embodied by the characters in her novels.So,when we talk about Lessing's viewpint of "identity/identity" in her novels,we mainly start from the perspective of the characters.Chapter two firstly enters the narrative layer of Lessing's novels,talking about how Lessing's novels use narrative means as a strategy to write "identity/identity".Chapter three and Chapter four enter the story layer of Lessing's creation,and select two strategies of writing identity which appear most frequently in Lessing's creation,namely,space strategy and body strategy.In the story layer of the novel,the relationship between space and identity is discussed,and then the relationship between the body and identity of the characters in space is discussed.Lessing uses many narrative strategies to write identity in order to appeal to the public to pay attention to marginal identity,so that the oppression and unfair treatment suffered by marginal identity can be seen in order to seek equality and dignity of marginal identity.
