The Research On The Materiality Of Literary And Artistic Media In The Posthuman Condition

With the rapid development of emerging technologies,we are encountering or facing a posthuman condition that has transformed our culture significantly.And with the deep infiltration of various disciplines,posthuman has gradually become an important field of theoretical research.This is a brand-new philosophical and scientific concept which often lead to a paradigm shift in the way we think about our world,ourselves and our relationship to the universe.In turn,this changes the development of literature and art.With the development of digital media technology,literature and art in the traditional sense intersect in cyberspace,thus forming a new form of blending of literature,art and technology.It also causes the invalidation of the explanatory effect of the relevant literary theories since the turn of western linguistic theory,which leads to the paradigm transformation of literary theory from "language media" to "material media".The concept of "material media" completely releases the material connotation of media as a form of technology,as a constitutive mediation and as a living environment,so as to redraw the posthuman landscape of the spread and development of literature and art in the new century with a omnimedia situation.In this context,the materiality problems of media is pushed to the front stage of theoretical thinking,and reveals the new waves of contemporary theory.In this paper,the materiality problems of media is located in the discourse of literature and art aesthetics,and it explores how the media enter into literature and art in the posthuman condition in the view of media ecology based on the equality,balance,symbiosis and coexistence relationship of humanity and materiality.In terms of content,it is mainly divided into six parts: locating "medium" in the discourse of literature and art theory,the materiality of the subject of creation,perception and reception,the materiality of representation,existence and action environment,the materiality of transmission effect of language and discourse,the materiality of literary and artistic contact,the materiality of literary and artistic code.The concern about media technology,posthuman and literature and art leads us to locate the "medium" in the discourse of literature and art theory.In the posthumanresearch lineage of McLuhan,Kittler and Hayles,the boundaries between different disciplines have been broken.Especially in the field of literary criticism,their ideas led literary theory to the technical field in an unprecedented way.Thus it shows how posthuman thoughts affect literature and art,and gives birth to the emergence and new changes of the research on the materiality of the media,and reveals the interactive relationship between the media ecology and the study of literature and art.The answer is what the materiality of the media is,what new changes it has in the posthuman condition,why it has to be explored,how it embodies posthuman ideas and thus affects the development of literature and art,and what is the inspiration to the transformation and construction of the paradigm of literary and artistic studies in the Future.The concentrated answers to these questions inspire the re-contextualization of the materiality perspective of the media,that is,to analyze and explore the literary and artistic problems in the posthuman condition from the materiality perspective of the media,so as to the basic elements of literature in the interpretive category of linguistic interpretation,and on this basis,the literary theory discourse genealogy of humanist modernity are introduced into the process of re-contextualizing them by combining them with each other through the media.This re-contextualization process is also a constructive mediation process.Human is intrinsically hybrid and associated with nonhuman.As a potential variant of posthumanism,nonhuman is involved in the exploration of the apart from the center of human and in all dimensions of the reconstruction of the future literary and artistic research paradigm.The nonhuman turn promoted by Bruno Latour,Cary Wolfe,Richard Grusin,Bruce Clarke,Peter Sloterdijk,and Peter-Paul Verbeek,among others,which makes the concept of subject is always expressed in the process of the becoming relationship between human and nonhuman others.From the inherent privilege of the human subject to the imagination of the nonhuman phenomenon,the subject begins to be closely entangled with the nonhuman being and becomes the subject of the technology mediation,thus showing the state of the post-subject in a compositionist manifesto.This becoming of posthuman subjects is reflected in the entanglement of media and the decline of human beings,which is embodied in the creation of AI technology and the events of literature and art,as well as in the post-printing production of interactive novels,so that the entanglement of the media and the future of literature are focused on and discussed.Furthermore,it shows the materiality of literary creation,perception and acceptance,in other words,itchallenges and remedies the discourses and existential forms of literary and artistic such as information sender and receiver,creator and receiver,writer and reader in the genealogy of traditional humanism.The literary representation of media technology,the ethical aspect of media technology and the early mixing of technology and human are based on the depiction of the relationship between human and media/technology,in which there is a diachronic clue that is shown as the future of imagination,the form of existence and variations of the old subject.Horkheimer,Adorno and Marcuse discussed the dialectics and rationalization of technology,Jameson,Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri emphasized technology informationization,Bernard Stiegler and Heidegger focused on the automatic generation of technology.Inspired by Don Irde,a representative of post-phenomenology,Verbeek focuses on the ethical issues of things by criticizing and drawing lessons from Sloterdijk.In addition,Kevin LaGrandeur traces and examines the early mixing of technology and human beings.All these present the relationship situation and issues between human and media/technology,literature and media/ technology.It is through the exposition and clarification of a series of related pedigree and problems from language media to material media in the posthuman condition that we are exploring the materiality of literary and artistic representation,existence and action environment in the new media era.The posthumanism literary theory refutes the traditional humanism literature method,focuses on exploring the ontological composition of literature,and explores the state of literature as an aesthetic object.It breaks through the poetical language of a specific human being to locate and analyze the specificity of literature,and starts to voice mainly outside the scope of language,finally turning the attention from the subjectivity of humanism to the nonhuman object.Technical writing as body construction always describes corporeal human as a combination of components and parts,more precisely,a patchwork.These texts emphasize plural ontology,and the transformation of identity "intertextual" to "intercorporeal",which expresses the idea of media as prosthesis.The life writings in autobiographical literature begins to break through language to carry out media narration,thus showing the matter of separation from discourse setting.They express the materiality of transmission effect of literary and artistic language and discourse,and remedies and transcend the works,texts,information and other discourses in the literary theory genealogy of humanism.The rapid change of media landscape at present intensively exhibits theestablishment of media to human aesthetic experience and the mediation of media to human sensory system.There are also media co-mixed narrative,the imbricate transcendence of electronic literature and literary and artistic omnimedia production phenomenon,which all centrally manifest the materiality dimension of media system to remedies and transcend the linguistic literature theory.
