Buddhist Western Pure Land Thought And Literature Before Song Dynasty

The main content of this paper is to comb the thought of Sukhavati and its literature before the period of the Five Dynasties(907-960).Based on the clear awareness of those characteristics and development venation in different periods about the Sukhavati belief,this paper will give concrete researchment on those literal patterns and performance.As the most important part of Chinese Buddhism,Sukhavati belief could always been the important and difficult subject in Buddhism research.Even though there are plenty of researchment on Pureland Buddhism history,still many details and specifics in Sukhavati belief suspended.From the perspective of Buddhism philosophy,too many problems in Sukhavati belief left to be discussed.What's more,the rising of postmodernism promote the development of mythology anthropology and so forth,it also brings the new methology on religious hermeneutics.The Sukhavati mythes and the archetypes behind them,as well as the history venation since Sukhavati introduced to the Five Dynaties,will be the main topics in this paper.In a conclusion,this paper will discuss the ideological roots before the Sukhavati introduced into China,the ideological circumstances when it introduced into China and the different dissemination situations in different historial periods,including Han Dynasty,Wei Dynasty,Jin Dynasty,the Northern and Southern Dynasties,SuiTang Dynasties and the Five Dynasties.Besides the researchment on Sukhavati thought,another issue Sukhavati Literature is also included in this paper.Nowadays,the relationship between Buddhism and Literature has become the prominent subject in literary studies,especially on those subjects of Chan Buddhism and variant literary text influenced by Buddhism,which have rich findings.While those stuiese on Pureland Buddhism literature still need too much attention.Thus,to talk about the Pureland Buddhism literature,this paper focus to some conspicuous issues on the literary content of Pureland Buddhism in different historal periods,including literary composations on contemplation of Amitaba in the period of Wei and Jin dynasties,the literary biography of monks whom reborned in Sukhavati paradise in the period of the Northern and Southern dynasties,poems and novals related to Amitaba and Sukhavti in the period of Sui Tang and the Five dynasties.The researchment around those issues aims to grasp the aesthetics qualities in Pureland Buddhism literature,summarizing the value of visual and scilence,death anxiety and beautiful imagination of the other-world in Pureland Buddhism composations.
