Based on the academic achievements of previous researches,this paper explores teaching methods and creative ideas of Maximov's oil painting training class(hereinafter referred to as "Ma Xun class")and Luo Gongliu's oil painting research class(hereinafter referred to as "Luo Yan class")from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the 1950 s.The present articles,focusing on the teaching system of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the early days of the founding of the PRC,explores "Ma Xun class" and "Luo Yan class" 's teaching concept,practice,achievements and values.By collecting and analyzing relevant material,including students' written records and works,this paper attempts to investigate "Ma Xun class" and "Luo Yan class" 's causes and consequences,as well as teaching conception,methods and achievements.This paper has the aim to map out the understanding of oil painting teaching and art education in the early period of New China by comparing the teaching ideas and achievements of "Ma Xun class" and "Luo Yan class".On the one hand,the differences in terms of tutor status between "Ma Xun class" and "Luo Yan class" demonstrate the open and inclusive character of art education in New China;on the other hand,the academic achievements of the students of the two classes continue and develop respectively the legacy of their tutors' teaching philosophy.The teaching practice of "Ma Xun class " and "Luo Yan class " reflects the relationship between the development of Chinese art and national policies.In terms of oil painting teaching and creative thinking,it embodies the shift from "discipline" and "study" to "innovation".
