A Study Of Richard Rorty's Neo-Pragmatist View Of Literature Culture

Richard Rorty,as a neo-pragmatist philosopher,has been well known.However,his research on literary theory and literary culture has not yet formed a scale.The only research results reflect the views of different opinions,which has not formed a consensus in the academic circle.Rorty's literary and cultural view is logically consistent with his post-philosophical and cultural thought,and also contains the practical spirit and exploration of pragmatism.Therefore,it is also an important part of Rorty's thought pedigree and a new dimension and perspective to understand Rorty's thought.It has certain theoretical and practical significance for Chinese academic circles to understand the essence of literature and its social function.Based on the interpretation of Rorty's concept of literary culture,this paper attempts to describe the overall outlook of literary culture,and then to explore the literary culture in the dimension of post-philosophical culture and Neo-pragmatism.Rorty's view of literature advocates abandoning the philosophical rational way of thinking and turning to perceptual narration.In the context of historicism,he "re-describes" things under the influence of metaphor and irony,so that all things that are regarded as unchangeable can present new features.Rorty's view of literary culture is the product of sublimation of literary significance,a Utopia of aestheticism and humanism,and also Rorty's hope that the world after philosophy can only be saved by literature.Rorty values the humanistic function of literature and elevates it to the level of culture.He advocates that people can enhance individual sensitivity through imagination to enhance sympathy for others and promote social unity,fairness and justice.The introduction part summarizes Rorty's life experience and thought changes,combs the overall study of Rorty's thought and the current situation of his thoughts,and focuses on the significance of taking Rorty's literary and cultural view as the heart,self,essence,universality and necessity in traditional philosophy by means of thorough contingency theory,and takes it as the basis of modern liberalism Utopia.Then it reveals the value of literature in Rorty's eyes.Literature describes an accidental world by showing the accidental events in life,thus discovering the multiple possibilities of life,which enables more people to realize that life is still interesting,lovely and worthy of living after abandoning the determined world essence and eternal human nature.Therefore,the importance of literature and culture is reflected in the be dispelled,so that the boundaries between the two become blurred and integrated into one.Rorty pays more attention to the social function of literature than to the laws and characteristics of literary text itself.Although Rorty plays the role of literature to the extreme in his own world and greatly enriches the connotation and extension of literature,as a discipline parallel to philosophy,science and religion,it has its own clear research direction As for the image and the unique operation rules,Rorty should not turn a blind eye to these original rules which he considers to be the so-called "essence",but only pay attention to the social function of literature,obliterating the independent value of literature as a science.
