Post-philosophy Criticism And Metaph Ysical Destiny

In the history of western philosophy,metaphysics is generally equivalent with philosophy.The traditional metaphysics takes ontology to concentrate on thinking,pursues the “ultimate cause” and “highest basis” behind the object,and it is known as the “king of culture” and the “mother of science”.However,after the middle of the nineteenth century,the trend of “rejecting metaphysics” continued to emerge as one falls another rises,and there are mainly two reasons: on the one hand,metaphysics as a kind of ontological thought has the congenital epistemological problem;On the other hand,metaphysics as a way of thinking has been incompatible with present needs.Nevertheless,blindly “rejecting metaphysics” does not conform to the needs of the times and human development,metaphysics is still the spiritual pillar of the human society,so “rebuilding metaphysics” becomes the research focus of contemporary metaphysics.Richard Rorty is the representative of rebuilding metaphysics in the modern and contemporary eras,who inherits the tradition of American pragmatism,absorbs the essence of continental philosophy,and puts forward the thoughts of post-philosophical culture.He criticizes the essentialism,foundationalism and logocentrism in the traditional philosophy,and considers that philosophy is no longer the king of culture but just a common member in multiculture,philosophy kicks the bucket as “uppercase philosophy”,and what replaces it is the “lowercase philosophy”.Rorty's thought of post-philosophical culture have offered a new train of thought to rebuild metaphysics: free and open,diversified and coexisting and respect individuals,but Rorty only proposes the framework of metaphysics from the macroscopic perspective,his thought is lack of detailed elaboration at the micro level,and there still exist the problems of unclear concepts,distorted and preposterous multiple values,etc.This paper attempts to explore the development trend of metaphysics in modern and contemporary times by carrying out critical research on Rorty's post-philosophical culture theory.In modern society,the transformation of metaphysics towards lifelization has become an irreversible trend,metaphysics must face the real world of human beings,break through its own parochial aspects with a tolerant attitude,diversified thinking and holistic insights,and finally establish a “generalized metaphysical view”.
