The woodcarving of the Han Dynasty is the first peak in the history of the development of woodcarving in ancient China. At present, there is still a lack of academic works on the study of woodcarving in the Han Dynasty around the shape. This article attempts to study the Han Dynasty woodcarving system from the modeling level, and conduct in-depth analysis and discussion on the time and space distribution, formation background, modeling characteristics, aesthetic characteristics and modeling thinking of Han Dynasty woodcarving. This article mainly obtains materials by visiting museums and collecting archaeological materials. On the basis of full possession of materials, from the perspectives of artistic stylistics and visual psychology, combined with traditional Chinese aesthetics, the modeling of wood carvings in the Han Dynasty is explained. The first chapter mainly explains the source of wood carvings in the Han Dynasty, and introduces its regional distribution and excavation overview.According to the spatial distribution and cultural relevance of Han Dynasty wood carving, the author divides it into three main areas, namely,Hunan,Hubei,Anhui,Su,Bashu,Hehuang and Hexi.In the introduction to each area, firstly,it briefly introduces the political, economic, and cultural background of the area during the Han Dynasty;secondly,it summarizes the excavation of the earth and wood carvings from the Han tombs in the area;and finally, the key Han tombs in the area are summarized. The wood carvings unearthed from the tomb are given a more detailed introduction. This chapter aims to grasp the basic situation of wood carving in the Han Dynasty and lay the material foundation for the modeling analysis later. The second chapter discusses the shape modeling and decoration techniques of the Han Dynasty woodcarving by taking the woodcarving of the Han Dynasty characters as an example. The author highlights the modeling characteristics of each area in a contrasting way.Among the many Han tombs with wood carvings unearthed, there are almost all wood carvings with character themes, which provides the possibility for comparison between various regions. The shapes and appearances of wood carvings of the characters in the Han Dynasty are different, and it is difficult to generalize their shapes and decorative features. The third chapter discusses the space performance and material craftsmanship of Han Dynasty woodcarving by taking animal woodcarving in the Han Dynasty as an example. The distribution of animal woodcarving in the Han Dynasty is not as universal as that of character woodcarving, and there are not a few Han tombs that have not unearthed animal-themed woodcarving. There are huge differences in the themes and quantity of animal wood carvings between different areas and different tombs. Therefore,in this chapter, the author uses a type of material to deal with a certain problem to expand the discussion.Among them, the horse has an extraordinary position in the Han Dynasty, and the shape of the Trojan horse is particularly wonderful,so this chapter will discuss it in a larger space. To a certain extent, all artistic creation begins with thinking, and describing the thinking activities of visual art is an important topic in the field of art.Previous researches focused on content, style, and technique. Therefore, based on the previous article,Chapter 4 explores the level of modeling thinking, pointing out that there were two types of shapes in wood carvings in the Han Dynasty, namely, the shape of objects and the shape of remains.thinking.
