Research On The Thought Of Academic Sinicization In The Republic Of China

The thought of academic Sinicization in the period of the Republic of China was a methodological reflection consciously formed by scholars of the Republic of China in the face of the overall westernization tendency in the ideological and academic circles.This idea grew up around the May Fourth Movement and reached its climax during the Anti-Japanese War.Its main demands include expressing Western learning in national languages and forms,applying Western learning to Chinese society,and integrating Western learning with Chinese culture as the main body.During the period of the Republic of China,Kuomintang scholars,social scientists,humanities scholars(cultural nationalists)and Marxist scholars who systematically expounded the thought of academic Sinicization.First of all,the academic Sinicization thought of the Kuomintang scholars was mainly manifested in the Chinese-standard cultural construction movement under its leadership,which was an indirect expression of the KMT's policy of reviving traditional culture in the 1930 s.The difficulties they encountered in the discussion of Chinese-standard culture and the construction of Chinese-standard law reflected the departure of their academic Sinicization ideas from reality and the needs of the times.Secondly,in the field of social sciences,academic Sinicization has two orientations: scientism and humanism.The former occupies the mainstream position,emphasizing the identification,experimentation and reflection of Western social science theories from the facts of China.The latter is represented by sociologists.Pan Guangdan.He tried to fundamentally break the monism of social science,and established Chinese social science discourse on the basis of traditional Chinese academic thought.The third is the academic sinicization thought in the field of humanities,which can also be called the academic sinicization thought of cultural nationalists.They advocate to restore the original status of Chinese traditional culture,and on this basis,integrate Chinese and Western cultures,and open up a new life for traditional Chinese culture.This point of view is concentrated in their discourses on the Sinicization of Buddhism and their historical thoughts.Finally,the Marxist academic Sinicization thought has the most abundant connotations,including three aspects: the popularization of Marxism,the actualization of Marxism,and the sinicization of cultural views.The essence of these three aspects is to unify the universality and particularity of Marxism.Looking at the academic Sinicization thought during the Republic of China,when they faced the two major issues of Sinicization,namely "how to deal with the West" and "how to deal with the tradition",there were three different tendencies,one was value-oriented,the other was Fact-oriented,and the third is value-factual synthesis-oriented.The academic Sinicization thoughts of Kuomintang scholars and cultural nationalists are roughly value-oriented,the academic Sinicization thoughts of social science scholars are fact-oriented,and the academic Sinicization thoughts of Marxists are value-factual synthesis-oriented.Among them,the Marxists' academic Sinicization thought is the most superior,and can theoretically provide the most inspiration for the establishment of Sinicized modern academics.
