From the perspective of research trends, explaining the "why" and "how" of Chinese left-wing literature has become an academic frontier of literary research in China.Researchers have already attempted to tackle issues from multiple perspectives such as times, characters, organizations, and publications. However, there remains a large scope to explore the role of foreign left-wing literature translation in the construction of Chinese left-wing literature, from the viewpoint of translation and communication. There are several macro-discourses concerning the occurrence of Chinese left-wing literature, but they lack representative cases of translation to provide in-depth support. Moreover, due to different academic positioning, the existing history of translated literature fails to reveal the impact of foreign left-wing literature translation on the distinct role of Chinese left-wing literature construction. In this paper, through research of Chinese left-wing literature, and based on the principle of "perspective transformation",we examine the occurrence of Chinese left-wing literature from the standpoint of foreign literary translation.Yiwen was one of the few large-scale translated literary journals in the 1930 s,and it was also a principal periodical where Lu Xun worked after joining the "Leftist Writers' League".It holds a special status in the research of Lu Xun,left-wing literature, translation and communication, and other fields.Compared with New Youth,Novel Monthly,Chuangzao Association Quarterly and other contemporary literary journals, the value of Yiwen in left-wing literature research has not yet been explored, and there are currently only a few articles concerning its publication.Besides, there is no academic work or dissertation that focuses specially on Yiwen. The current research status is extremely disproportionate to the reputation, status, and influence of Yiwen, which reflects the deficiency of research into left-wing literary journals.Using Yiwen as a typical example of left-wing literature translation,in the investigation of the interactive relationship between translation, literature, and politics,we examine the unique relationship between foreign left-wing literature translation and the occurrence of Chinese leftwing literature. This promotes Chinese left-wing literature research at the level of international literary interaction and communication. This is the first time in the academic field that a study has been conducted on leftwing literature using Yiwen as the foundation. The combination of microcases and macro-discourse is also an approach to rectify deviations in the long-existing phenomenon of "dissertation to replace history" in previous studies of left-wing literature. The paper is developed according to the progressive concepts of publication, translation, and influence. It discusses these ideas from the following five aspects: publication and distribution, translation concepts, model writers, characteristics of translated works, and influences on translators. In the first chapter,we analyze the left-wing characteristics of Yiwen concerning the perspective of publication and distribution, mainly discussing the establishment of the "Leftist Writers' League" and the practice of "Left-wing Literature" before the publication of Yiwen.Besides,we also consider the left-wing correlations among the initiators, the Shenghuo bookstore and the left-wing publishing business of the Shanghai magazine company to ascertain why Yiwen can be defined as an outstanding example of a foreign left-wing translated literary journal.Chapter Two introduces the characteristics of Yiwen from the viewpoint of translation concepts. It mainly focuses on the host's theories on literary translation, the "translation intentions" embodied in the "Postscript",the strategies of manuscript selection and the construction of“revolutionary literature”.It also systematically summarizes the question of "why translate" and "how to translate" in Yiwen. The third chapter reviews the communication strategy of Yiwen according to the perspective of model writers. It discusses the relationships between the Pushkin Special Edition and "Proletarian Literature",the Gorky Special Edition and the narrative of the left-wing revolution in China, and the Lu Xun Memorial Edition and the shaping of the Chinese version of Gorky, with a focus on the model writers' positive guiding strategies in Yiwen. In Chapter Four,we summarize the literary characteristics of Yiwen from the perspective of translated works. There is an emphasis on "Russian-Soviet Literature" and the mode of "translation and introduction works from weak countries",the disclosure of "social illness" and criticism of "national character",and the extension on publication of separate essay collections and the "Yiwen Series".As a result,we unravel the source of translation, theme style, and translation modes. The final chapter examines the political influences of Yiwen concerning the standpoint of translators. It primarily considers the inclusive "United Front" effect of Yiwen in uniting the translators,as well as influencing the political choices of editors, publishers, and translators after the publication of Yiwen ceased. It assesses the special contribution of the translation team to the left-wing revolution in China. In the process of forming a translation team, translating and introducing foreign left-wing literature, and publishing translated special journals,Yiwen magazine gradually formed a systematic, distinctive and operable publishing model for foreign left-wing literature translation. It adhered closely to the intentions of "Stealing Fire" and "speaking for the oppressed, speaking for the abused",forming a translation team based on the political platform of a "United Front" and private friendships, and the unique feature of focusing on the translation and introduction of the strategies of “model writers” by using special columns and editions. The conscious,organized,large-scale translation of foreign left-wing literature of Yiwen has made a vital contribution to the construction of Chinese leftwing literature. It has strong historical and practical significance in uniting left-wing writers, training translators, and translating left-wing works.
