As a Chinese saying goes,good morality ensures a responsible person and even a prosperous country.As the future of the country,the moral education of college students mostly reflects national cultures.By enhancing college students' moral education,we should lead them to combine right moral cognition,self-conscious moral cultivation and active moral practice,self-consciously nurturing and practicing core socialist values.This is necessary to nurture a all-round groundings for the socialist cause and a new generation of capable young people shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation,and foster virtue through education,a fundamental task for colleges.The fine traditional Chinese culture is time-honored,extensive and profound,an emblem of a Chinese national spirit.Led by Confucianism and centered on ethics,the fine traditional culture shows rich virtues.According to its moral values,the Confucian gentleman personality thought of pre-Qin period is a representative of the deepest spiritual pursuit and unique characters of the Chinese nation,to some extent,showing the values of Chinese “root” and “soul”.As a result,it is significant in theory and practice for the connotative development of colleges' moral education in a new era to fully explore ideas,people-to-people spirits,and moral conviction embraced in the Confucian gentleman personality thought of pre-Qin period which have contemporary values and promote their creative evolution and innovative development.Firstly,research review is a logical starting point of any new study.This dissertation concludes the status quo and trends of the research on the Confucian gentleman personality thought of pre-Qin period and moral education of colleges in academic circle and analyzes the weak links of existed studies that need to be advanced or break through,prepared for further researches.After systematically arranging the history of the Confucian gentleman personality thought of pre-Qin period from dynasties of Xia,Shang,Zhou,the Spring and Autumn Period to Warring State Period,this dissertation makes it clear how the definition of gentlemen changed from individuals with power to those with virtues,presenting a picture of the Confucian gentleman personality thought of pre-Qin period represented by Confucius,Mencius,and Xuncius.Meanwhile it clarifies humanity,practice,universality,and intrinsic transcendence of the Confucian gentleman personality of pre-Qin period.According to this dissertation,these essential characteristics mentioned above are both the key to advance creative evolution and innovative development of gentlemen personality thought and the link to integrate the gentleman personality thought into college students' moral education.Secondly,this dissertation tells the necessity,possibility and contents about assimilating Confucian gentleman personality of pre-Qin period into moral education of college students.For its necessity,gentleman personality thought shows fine traditions from “Culture cultivates men” to “ Culture fosters morality”.This is significant for fostering virtue through education,an important task for all colleges,resolving contemporary moral education plight of college students and building stronger college students' confidence of cultures and values.In terms of its possibility,gentleman personality thought embraces contemporary values that can be turned and referenced by others.The thought involving goals,patterns and values in moral education fits with requirements of college students' deeper moral education theories and innovative practice with varying degrees.All those efforts are made a solid foundation for the integration of the two parts.As for the contents to be integrated,the dissertation should keep its contents align with practice.These moral articles embraced in the gentleman personality thought are moral goals that individuals want to reach in the salutary discipline,benchmarks of values building ideal social relationships and a spiritual source of fostering love for the country.The moral education is conducive to raising college students' public ethical standards and enhancing their works ethics,family virtues and personal integrity.At the same time,methods of moral education involved in the gentleman personality thought bring together moral cultivation and self-discipline.And cultivation methods in the gentleman personality thought contain essential implications combining heteronomy and autonomy in the moral education.The integration should be excellent so as to promote actual effects of college students' moral education.Finally,the dissertation makes it clear how Confucian gentleman personality of pre-Qin period integrated into the moral education of college students.Meanwhile,it puts forward basic principles that the integration process should obey and approaches.The dissertation considers that the integration process should keep in line with the socialist moral education and basic principles of moral education and represent innovative development in respond to requirements of the times,according to directional,contemporary and scientific basic laws.And it also believes that preconditions for the integration process are to respect historical traditions of the gentleman personality thought and tap its contemporary values.As for,the approaches of integration,this dissertation will combine the reality goals of colleges with moral development's needs of college students.And it comes up with college students' path dependence in the moral dedication from integration of main channels,creating a sound environment of moral education to encouraging college students to become a new generation,with the culmination of inspiring college students' moral subjectivity.In a nutshell,this dissertation in the beginning elucidates important questions of the times such as ensuring a fundamental task of education that foster virtue through education,and improving the creative evolution and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese cultures.And it then focuses on the specific thesis of the Confucian gentleman personality in the pre-Qin period and moral education of college students.This is a necessary and beneficial exploration for promoting college students' moral education theories involving the wisdom of the Chinese people and creative development of college students' moral education practice in line with contemporary requirements.
