Study On The Tourism Shield Effects And Its Measurement

With the sustained and rapid development of Thailand’s tourism industry,it has become a world-famous tourist destination such as Bangkok,Pattaya,Phuket Island and so on.However,the unbalanced development of tourism industry in Thailand is still affecting the high-quality development of tourism industry in Thailand.Some regions with high-quality tourism resources are difficult to develop because some restrictive factors are blocked by mature tourism destinations.This kind of tourism shielding phenomenon is a common type of unbalanced development.Among them,the Prachuapkirikan Province in Thailand was shielded by Bangkok and Chonburi Province.While the phenomenon of tourism shielding is typical in Thailand,there is no attention paid to this issue in tourism related research.In China,although scholars have paid attention to the tourism shielding effect and achieved considerable research results,there is still a lack of corresponding systematic research,and there are still obvious deficiencies in research perspectives,scales,contents and methods.Therefore,using the mature theory of China to study the practical problems in the development of tourism in Thailand,in order to provide guidance for the high-quality sustainable development of tourism in Thailand and enrich the research system of China’s tourism shielding effect,has become the theme of this paper.This paper comprehensively uses the methods of literature analysis,comparative analysis and empirical analysis to clarify the research topics and significance,research progress and review,research basis and methods,research ideas and framework（Chapter 1）;based on the relevant theories of geography,tourism,economics（Chapter 2）;This paper expands the concept of tourism shielding effect,and systematically analyses its connotation,types,characteristics,causes and effects,and preliminarily establishes the basic theory of tourism shielding effect（Chapter3）.On the basis of theoretical research,the index system and evaluation model of tourism shielding effect are constructed（Chapter 4）.Taking Bangkok,Chonburi Province and Prachuapkirikan Province as examples,this paper conducts an empirical study（Chapter 5）.According to the empirical results,it regulates the shielding effect of tourist destinations from three levels: regulation system,regulation path and Regulation Countermeasures（Chapter 6）.Finally,it puts forward the conclusions and prospects of this study（Chapter 7）.The main contents and conclusions of this paper include:（1）Expanding the basic concept of tourism shielding effect.This study defines the concepts of tourism shielding and tourism shielding effect.Tourism shielding reflects the process and tourism shielding effect reflects the result.The tourism shielding effect refers to the follow-up effect of one tourist destination shielding another.The image of tourism shielding directly expresses the phenomenon of shielding on the shielded land,which provides a new way of thinking for the study of tourism development and tourism impact.（2）The theoretical framework of tourism shielding effect is established.This paper analyses the basic theory of tourism shielding effect from five aspects:connotation,types,characteristics,causes and effects of tourism shielding.Then,it clarifies the idea of quantitative research on Tourism shielding effect from three dimensions of tourism destination,tourists and tourism.（3）The index system of tourism shielding effect measurement is constructed.On the basis of relevant research,following the principles of combination of systematicness and scientificity,measurability and feasibility,and on the basis of understanding the connotation,types,characteristics,causes and impacts of tourism shielding effect,this paper studies the shielding effect of tourism destination,tourists and tourism industry from the perspective of index of shielding effect of tourism destination,index of shielding effect of tourists and shielding effect of tourism industry.The index system of tourism shielding effect measurement is refined from three aspects.（4）The magnitude and intensity of tourism shielding effect are measured.This paper evaluates and measures the tourism shielding of Prachuapkirikan,Bangkok and Chonburi Province by constructing the evaluation index system of tourism shielding effect.The results show that under the evaluation index framework of tourism shielding effect,Prachuapkirikan Province is most likely to be shielded.From the regional scope of Thailand,Prachuapkirikan Province is Shielded tourism destination,while Bangkok and Chonburi Province are shielded tourism destination.In terms of the overall shielding effect intensity of tourism,Bangkok and Chonburi Province do have a shielding effect on the Prachuapkirikan Province,and the shielding effect of Bangkok Province on the Prachuapkirikan Province is relatively stronger,and the shielding types are mainly reflected in the tourists aspect.As for the shielding types of Prachuapkirikan Province,the effect of tourism destination is the highest,which means that the tourist attraction of Prachuapkirikan Province is relatively attractive,and the effect of tourism industry is in the middle,which means that the investment in tourism in Prachuapkirikan Province is insufficient,and the shielding effect of tourists is the lowest,which means that the influence of tourism development in Prachuapkirikan Province is weak.（5）Exploring the regulation mechanism of tourism shielding effect.On the basis of theory and empirical research,the shielding effect of tourist destination is regulated from three levels: regulation system,regulation path and regulation countermeasure,so as to provide systematic countermeasures and suggestions for shielded tourist destination to get rid of its negative influence and realize its breakthrough development.
