Research On The Relationships Among Complementary Assets,Platform Leadership And Ambidextrous Innovation Based On Internet Platform Firm

Platform economy had become a new economic model in the 21 st century,its prosperity had created a large number of Internet platform firms.Internet platform enterprises which were the important organizations of resource allocation and benefit coordination in the era of platform economy had become a vital force to promote technological innovation and business innovation.Internet platforms effectively connected multi-user groups and construct an innovative ecosystem with multi-agent participation by Internet information technology.Platform firm was obviously located in the core Niche of innovation ecosystem,and its innovation behavior deeply impacted on the whole ecosystem.Platform firms which crossed their boundaries to integrate complementary assets carried by innovators in the ecosystem promoted innovation activities and maintain the healthy development of integrated ecosystem when their facing the dilemma in limitations of their resources and capabilities with open innovation paradigm had become the mainstream way of innovation.However,there was lack of research about what was the impact of complementary assets on platform innovation and how effected.This research constructed a theoretical analysis framework of resource-capabilityinnovation aiming at ambidextrous innovation activities of platform firms,emphasizing on enhancing platform leadership and supporting by acquiring complementary assets on the basis of ecosystem theory and open innovation theory.In order to explore the impact mechanism of complementary assets on platform leadership and ambidextrous innovation,analyze the mediation effect of platform leadership between complementary assets and ambidextrous innovation and research the moderating effect of platform openness and environmental complexity.The main conclusions of this study were as follows: First,more complementary assets that can be leveraged by the platform firm in the innovation ecosystem,the better for company to carry out ambidextrous innovation activities;Second,the more complementary assets that can be utilized by the firm in the innovation ecosystem,the more conducive to the improvement of platform leadership;Third,the stronger platform leadership for enterprise which in the innovation ecosystem,the more be beneficial to exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation;Forth,platform leadership played an mediation role between complementary assets and ambidextrous innovation;Fifth,environmental complexity moderated the relationship between complementary assets and ambidextrous innovation;Sixth,environmental complexity moderated the relationship between platform leadership and ambidextrous innovation.This research constructed the structural characteristic model of platform leadership by the grounded research method,and a measurement scale of platform leadership was formed on this basis.It provided a measurement tool for the later research of platform leadership.This study established the logical relationship among complementary assets,platform leadership and ambidextrous innovation,it could further enriched the theory research of platform firm and related fields,and also provided practical guidance for platforms or enterprises that want to become platform.
