| The business model is a major unavoidable topic in developing intelligent manufacturing enterprises.Many intelligent manufacturing enterprises face realistic challenges such as vague business model concepts,unclear formation mechanisms,and difficulty in realizing value.These problems can be attributed to the lack of in-depth understanding and clear understanding of the business model for promoting intelligent manufacturing.The theoretical research in academia has not been able to lead the practice well.At present,the country’s intelligent manufacturing enterprises urgently need to obtain a systematic theoretical interpretation of business models to guide the practice better.This thesis takes the country’s intelligent manufacturing enterprises as the research object.It researches scientific issues such as the connotation,typology,antecedents,and performance relationships of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises to provide essential insights and theoretical references for promoting the high-quality development of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises.Based on existing research,this thesis believes that the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises is the value logic that manufacturing enterprises make full use of emerging digital technologies to continuously accumulate and apply industrial big data and provide digital products or services to customers to obtain performance returns.This thesis sorts out and summarizes the literature on the typology,influencing factors,relationship with performance,and primary related theoretical basis of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises.It finds that the typology of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises need to be clarified.The influencing factors of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises need to be explored,and the relationship between the business model and the performance of intelligent manufacturing enterprises needs to be empirically tested.Finally,this thesis explores scientific issues according to the theoretical chain of "typology(refinement of connotation)-antecedents-relationship with performance(consequences)."Firstly,the four types of business models of intelligent manufacturing enterprises are sorted out.It considers the mainstream development of manufacturing and the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises.Based on the service-dominant logic,the theoretical typology is carried out from the two-dimensional perspective of S(servitization)-D(digitization).Specifically,the business models of intelligent manufacturing enterprises are classified into four categories: enhanced,adaptive,extended,and complex from the two dimensions of servitization(no,existing)and digitalization level(low,high),and constructed an intelligent manufacturing enterprise — the typology framework of the "one-in-one four-type" business model.Compared with extant studies,the feature of this thesis’ s typology is that it not only builds a business model typology system that conforms to the characteristics of intelligent manufacturing enterprises,deepens the connotation of intelligent manufacturing enterprises’ business model,but also defines the boundaries of different types of business models based on clearly expounding the typology basis.A more precise explanation is provided,which provides a theoretical basis for subsequent empirical analysis.At the same time,this thesis expounds on and compares the differences in the business models of four types of intelligent manufacturing enterprises from business model content,structure,and governance.Secondly,six factors affecting the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises are extracted,and the antecedent configuration is analyzed in depth.This thesis focuses on the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises,following the idea that "advanced information technology leads to organizational structure change." Based on the analysis framework of adaptive structuration theory,from the advanced information technology structure,internal structure source,and external structure source extracted six factors affecting the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises,namely digital infrastructure,digital orientation,top management team heterogeneity,servitization,government support,and customer demand uncertainty.Through multiple authoritative channels to collect the list of intelligent manufacturing enterprises and the list of A-share listed companies,415 enterprises were obtained,and the combination of fs QCA and NCA was used to analyze the antecedent configuration.The research results show that five configurations lead to the formation of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises.The empirical taxonomy of the business model generated by the configuration expands and deepens the theoretical typology carried out in this thesis.Specifically,in the empirical taxonomy,the enhanced business model is divided into the executive-led and digital leadership models.The content of the enhanced business model has two types of product models: low-digital product and system-led product;the business model structure is expressed as relationship maintenance.The content of the adaptive business model is mainly based on the product model driven by executives,showing a digital-driven business model structure.The structure of the extended business model is mainly a digital embedded structure,and a high level of digitalization-oriented guidance characterizes the business model governance.The management-led governance model is a complex business model structure with typical system-led characteristics.Business model governance includes the executives and the government collaborative co-governance model and the executive-led governance model,both under digital support.Finally,it examines the impact of intelligent manufacturing enterprises’ business models on firm performance.Based on organizational configuration,this thesis uses the OLS regression analysis method to test the impact of five intelligent manufacturing enterprise business models on performance(market performance,financial performance)under empirical taxonomy.The thesis found that the enhanced(executive-led,digital leadership-led)and adaptive business model can promote enterprises’ market and financial performance.The extended business model only positively impacts market performance,and the complex business model negatively impacts market performance and financial performance but is not significant.The results show that,in the short term,compared with the intelligent manufacturing enterprises that substantially engage in a service-oriented business,the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises that do not carry out service-oriented business is more conducive to the growth of enterprise performance.To a certain extent,this reflects the importance of intelligent manufacturing enterprises strengthening their core business and embracing servitization and digitalization with a long-term mentality.The research results of this thesis have critical theoretical contributions in the following aspects: expanding the research on business model typology from the context and connotation levels;analyzing the antecedent configuration of the business model of intelligent manufacturing enterprises based on adaptive structuring theory,enriching the impact of business models literature discussion of factors;expands the internal relationship between business model and enterprise performance from the perspective of configuration.In terms of practical significance,this thesis provides an essential theoretical framework for intelligent manufacturing enterprises to identify business model types,provides an essential theoretical reference for understanding the value creation logic of intelligent manufacturing enterprises,and provides positive theoretical reference support for the service-oriented and digital transformation of traditional manufacturing enterprises. |
