With the development of sustainable urbanization and reconstruction of space,the building renovation has become the main way of urban renewal in the future.The building frontage space has received increasing attention as an important medium connecting buildings with streets,squares,courtyards and other external public spaces.The goal of renovation is not only related to the building facade or image,but also to the crowd behavior in the space.At present,little scientific work has been directed at the building frontage space at home and abroad,the definition of the related concept is not clearly expressed,and a systematic theoretical system has not yet been formed.Consequently,it is of great value to carry out a research directed at the building frontage space.This paper uses literature review method to define the research object and scope,and uses behavior note method to record the crowd behavior data information and get the behavior map of the crowd.Semantic differential method is used to investigate the psychological feelings of the flowing crowd to the building frontage space.Multiple linear regression analysis is applied to find out the correlation between the elements of visual environment and the behavior of the flowing crowd.In order to explore the visual environment quality optimization system of the building frontage space,the visual analysis is carried out based on space syntax and visual field analysis technology.Finally,the frontage space optimization method is proposed.The basic research content consists of the following aspects: from the perspective of the building boundary,unite the building space and the structure,define the frontage space,the frontage space of the street shops further divide into three categories,including commercial,life and tourism.Through the observation of the behaviour,annotation,questionnaires and other methods collect the information and select the indicators,build up a comprehensive evaluation system for the building frontage space,analyze the impact of non-identical visual environment indicators of the frontage space on the behavior of the movement of the crowd,investigate the connection between the building frontage space and the crowd,survey the crowd’s perception of the street space environment,analyze the frontage space visual environment index data,explore the contribution of various environmental attributes to the street atmosphere;by adjusting the interface scaling section,form,openness,transparency and fluctuating the surface layer factos,etc.,comprehensively,improve and optimize the design of the frontage space scheme.By summarizing,the review of relevant studies shows,that the frontage space is an important component part of the architectural space,carrying forward the attractiveness of the architectural space,expanding the interior and exterior residental space,thus optimizing the building image and other functions,among which the beams,columns,doors and windows,green plants are the 3 key elements to affect on its spatial function and use experience.Visual perception analysis found out the frontage space can have a direct impact on the behaviour of the pedestrians.From the perspective of “architecture–human-environment” integration,it is of great value to revisit the problem of architectural boundary based on spatial experience.On the one hand,“frontage space”provides a new way of thinking about the relationship between the exterior and interior of buildings,bringing about two-way changes between urban space and architectural space.On the other hand,the matching of frontage space elements with crowd behavior leads to new methods of architectural design and urban design,which provides a new basis for the future urban renovation and service facilities construction on a microscopic scale.
