On Space Design Of Flexible Boundary In Urban Streets

The public area of a city lies in streets, and it is streets that unfold thevibrant city activities. Flexible boundary is the connection part of thefrontage elevation and street. By connecting the building space with thestreet space, flexible boundary is the transition from interior space toexterior street space, which provides the possibility for the interaction ofcity life and the life in or outside the building. Street with flexibleboundary not only provides better platform of communication for citizensbut also attracts more people to have activities in the city space. Throughanalyzing the interface flexibility of Xi’jian’dao Block, this thesis showsthat flexible boundary provides appropriate situation for outdoor activitiesand joy for citizens. Thus people tends to spend more time in staying inpublic space and more outdoor activities will be promoted. In a word,flexible boundary makes city life colorful and beautiful.
