Any artwork is the product of a specific era,so it is inevitably affected by the customs of the era in which it is located.Art and the customs and culture of the era are inherently a kind of symbiotic interaction, especially in the story novels of Ming and Qing Dynasty,Because of its distinctive civic literature color, its content pays more attention to the daily life of ordinary people in cities. The folklore research on the novels in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties is based on such a perspective to explore the operation mechanism of folk culture in the novel art system and its internal relationship with the local cultural system. The thesis is divided into six chapters except the introduction. The first chapter is an overview of the folklore and the novels in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The late Ming and early Qing dynasties were a special time period in the history of ancient Chinese novels. On the one hand, due to the rise of cities and the development of commerce, thus expanding the folk life space of Ming and Qing society. On the other hand, due to the changes in the social and political environment, the traditional literati groups have been sinking. They have injected vitality into the creation of story novels.During this period, the creation of story novels appeared unprecedented.Prosperous scene, while the number of works has greatly increased, excellent works are also emerging. The second chapter discusses the folklore of story novels from the novelist’s "common people" identity. The first section discusses the novelist’s "common people" identity. The latter two sections, taking "San Yan" "Er Pai" and Liyu’s novels as examples, respectively, discuss how the novelist’s "common people" identity permeates into the art world of their novels. The third chapter mainly discusses the folk culture in the art system of Ming and Qing story novels from the level of novel text generation.Folklore,as a symbol accumulated in the vertical flow of time, its rich connotation is continuously stimulated and released in specific contexts and scenes, thus becoming a unique factor deeply embedded in the artistic image. The nickname and the physiognomy technique are the usual means of character configuration in the story novels, and they play a important role in the portrayal of the characters.Folklore events and folklore entanglements often become important folklore means for the layout and plot construction of the novels. And the narration mode of the novels also shows very obvious folk-custom characteristics.Folklore factors and novel texts generally show a symbiotic and interactive relationship. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the spatial cultural characteristics of the novels in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties from the perspective of folklore.First of all, with the development of commerce and the rise of cities, making the urban space show obvious commercial folk characteristics.Secondly, the secular religious space is closely related to the secularization tendency of the overall social atmosphere in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the strange space in story novel is the generalization of folk religious beliefs. In addition, with the flourishing of tourist customs in the late Ming, the construction of entertainment space in story novels also reflects rich folk characteristics, gradually forms some typical urban entertainment. The fifth chapter mainly discusses the folklore and regional issues of the novels in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. This chapter follows the fourth chapter, starting from the transformation of space to region promoted by folklore, and argues that the regional characteristics of story novels contain rich folklore connotations. Then, taking Xihu novels as an example,it discusses the folklore motivation of regional literature, that is,the most essential reason for the formation of regional literature lies in its folklore. The sixth chapter mainly discusses the novel information exchange system formed by folklore as a kind of imaginary expression symbol and its recognition and return to the national culture system from the perspective of folklore imagery and national culture. Therefore, for the study of ancient Chinese novels that are different from those in the West, the idea of returning to localization should be advocated. This kind of folklore research is essentially an attempt to localize the way of thinking about ancient Chinese novels. The core of localization lies in the recognition of the national spirit and the return to the national cultural tradition.Clarify the local generation context of ancient Chinese novels and the special form of its own style development and evolution, and confirm the local cultural genes of ancient Chinese novels in the form of tracing back to the source. Therefore,it provides a glimpse into the localization research ideas of returning to the traditional cultural context, traditional spiritual core and traditional national characteristics.
