The hermeneutic thoughts in the poetry theory in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties were an important part of the ancient Chinese hermeneutic thoughts. They not only made an inclusive reflection and summary of the hermeneutical thoughts of the Ming Dynasty poetry, but also are the theoretical cornerstone of the hermeneutical thoughts of the Qing Dynasty. The theory that advocates “poetry is alive”,as represented by Zhong Xing and the hermeneutic thought of maintaining the Confucian orthodox classics represented by Wang Fuzhi in this period play a critical role of connecting the preceding and the following, which is worthy of further exploration. The full text is mainly divided into four parts. The first part is the origin of the hermeneutic thought in the poetry theory in the late Ming and early Qing.On the one hand, the content elucidates the generational background of the hermeneutic thoughts during late Ming-early Qing poetic theories in terms of synchronicity;on the other hand,it makes a historical retrospect of the thought of poetic interpretation from the perspective of diachronicity. The second part focuses on Zhong Xing's “poetry is alive”theory. From the perspective of “living beings”,this paper explores its origin and standard, before explaining its values and limitations. The third part is Wang Fuzhi's hermeneutic thoughts in the poetry theory.Wang Fuzhi's literary thoughts have a great influence on later generations, including the hermeneutic thoughts, the hermeneutic principles of “the lack of a complete explanation in poetry”,the interpretative premise of “poetry disposition” and the reader-centered “four emotions” turn are all worth discussing in depth. The fourth part mainly expounds the historical significance of the hermeneutic thought in the late Ming-early Qing poetry theories, including the influence on the Qing Dynasty, the construction significance and enlightenment on the contemporary hermeneutic system.
