Abstract/Summary:
As a special kind of culture,Hong Kong film and television dramas strongly connect with the Hong Kong society.The introduction of this paper addresses some key aspects of the pre-1997 Hong Kong television dramas,the general review of Hong Kong television dramas.The origin,background and theoretical basis of problems in this paper are demonstrated in this part as well.Chapter One mainly focuses on the spatial construction of Hong Kong.As a high-density global city,Hong Kong is faced with higher pressure of the inner and outer crowding,the increasing number of Gini Coefficient reflects the serious problems of gap between the rich and poor,and the residential difference is also typical in Hong Kong.Urban issues and its phenomena have a dimension of emotion.As a significant and overlooked component of Hong Kong,the streets and tenement houses attach great importance to the production of emotion of the individuals who live in the city.What’s more,the trans-regional narration between Hong Kong and Macao,Hong Kong and Peking is also regarded as another crucial dimension of analyzing the Hong Kong urban culture.Chapter Two delineates the history of Hong Kong,analyzing the destiny of the individual,the family,the region and the whole nation.The individuals in Hong Kong nostalgic television dramas managed to find their brothers and sisters and the hardship they suffered in a special historical context of Hong Kong.The spirit of Hong Kong has a special meaning to the generation and generation who witnessed the great changes in this special region.The taste of Hong Kong is also a unique way to find out the Hong Kong cultural identity.This chapter also tries to map the nostalgic practices in Hong Kong television dramas in order to prove that the return of Hong Kong to the mainland is the right choiceChapter Three,we explores the body narration in the Hong Kong television dramas.The modernity of the city reshape the way people see and perceive.The trauma and recovery of the of the individual,discipline and punishment of the body,the awakening and rising of the feminist consciousness of Hong Kong female groups.Greimax’s semantic matrix is used to analyze the distortion of human nature in the modern society.Surprise and boredom,enthusiasm and loneliness,melancholy and anxiety.The treatment of the issues of disability and healing in the Hong Kong television dramas emphasize the special meaning of guarding life by healing hands and advanced technical medicine in the modern society.Chapter Four mainly discusses the fantasy narration of the Hong Kong television dramas.The innovation and transformation of the vampire of the traditional Chinese ghost culture and the vampire films in the western culture are demonstrated in this chapter.The Hong Kong fantasy television dramas meet the demands of the audience of the mainland,Taiwan and Hong Kong.The heroes in the Hong Kong television dramas attach a great importance to the Hong Kong pop culture.The conclusion of this paper emphasizes the special meanings of the image era and visual culture,Hong Kong television dramas play a significant part in exploring the Hong Kong urban culture.In the post-1997 era,the upcoming challenges and problems of Hong Kong television dramas,the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,and how to provide a better environment for a prosperous future of Hong Kong pop culture,is still a hot topic worthy of further exploration.
