Vietnamese literature has been affected and recepted much from Chinese culture, especially the doctrines in Chinese culture.Confucian has entered Vietnam a long time ago and had been admitted by local people. Each dynasty in Vietnam approached Cofucian in other aspects. This doctrine was only brought to a unique position when the post-Le dynasty was established. This thesis takes the relationship between Vietnamese poetry of the pre-Le period and Confucian thought as the research object, especially focusing on the poetry of two poets Ruan Zhi(Nguyen Trai)and Li Sicheng(Le Tu Thanh). The structure of the thesis consists of 5 chapters.Chapter 1 outlines the process of Confucian thought entering Vietnam and its influence on Vietnamese poetry in the post-Le dynasty. In this chapter, the author presents the history of Confucian thought in Vietnam through the periods, from the early days when it was introduced into Vietnam until its development to its peak in the post-Le period and gradually declined in later dynasties. The strong influence of Confucian thought on Vietnamese society in the post-Le dynasty is reflected in the large group of Confucians. They were the main literary force of this period, such names as Ruan Zhi,Li Sicheng,Li Guidun,Ruan Bingqian, etc. In the post-Le period,Confucian thought influenced to most aspects of Vietnamese society.Chapter 2 is the influence of Confucian thought on Ruan Zhi’s poetry.Ruan Zhi is considered as a national hero by the Vietnamese people. His life went through many ups and downs, made many contributions to the establishment of the post-Le dynasty, but ended up being wrongly accused and executed by guillotine. He is a great poet of the Vietnamese nation, besides being good at writing poems in Chinese,he is also good at writing poems in Nom.After being executed by guillotine, his works were lost a lot, later collected in the “Yì zhāi shījí-Anthology of Yizhai Poems”.His poetry expresses the Confucian thought quite clearly in such aspects as: the idea of humanity, the point of view on working as a mandarin or in hiding, the view on the destiny of heaven...For Ruan Zhi,Confucian thought became the dominant ideology in his life.Chapter 3 especially studies Confucian thought on the “Guó yīn shījí-Anthology of Chinese Poems” by Ruan Zhi.Nom script is a unique type of writing of the Vietnamese people, the Vietnamese borrow the form of Chinese characters to record the voices of the natives, forming the Nom script.“Guó yīn shījí-Anthology of Chinese Poems” is an excellent collection of Nom poems by Ruan Zhi,in which he clearly shows his assimilation of Confucian thought in such aspects as:middle-class religion, poetry to talk about character, views on self-cultivation.Chapter 4 focuses on the study of Confucian thought in Li Sicheng’s Chinese poetry.Li Sicheng was a famous king in Vietnamese history,he was a good king and a great poet.He was good at writing poems in Chinese characters, leaving a lot of articles, typically 6 volumes of poetry. His Chinese character poetry expressed the point of view of applying Confucian thought to governing the country. The main inspiration in Li Sicheng’s Chinese character poetry is praise inspiration. In addition,he also clearly expressed the philosophy of "the inside is the saint, the outside is the king" in his Chinese character compositions. The most famous collection of poems by Li Sicheng is “Qióng yuàn jiǔ gē – Qiongyuan Nine songs”.Chapter 5 is a special chapter studying the art of applying Confucian classics in the compositions of Ruan Zhi and Li Sicheng. Both Ruan Zhi and Li Sicheng were very knowledgeable about Confucian scriptures,so it is understandable that they apply Confucian classics to their compositions.Ruan Zhi is very good at using Confucian classics and Confucian scriptures, while Li Sicheng was knowledgeable about the Yì Jīng.He applied the theory of the Yì Jīng to compose a collection of poems in Chinese characters,“Zhēng xī jìxíng-Journey to the West”.The appendix of this thesis provides some materials related to the literary works of Ruan Zhi and Li Sicheng such as opening poems in poetry collections, poets’ chronology, and some illustrations...
