Interest is an important category of historical materialism.It is also a realistic concern for the Chinese Communists.Especially since the reform and opening-up and with the development of China’s social economy,profound adjustment and changes have taken place in the relationship and pattern of interest.The pursuit of interest has promoted the development of economy to a certain extent,but also brings new social problems,such as interest solidification,interest differentiation and so on.There are major tasks before us,like how to properly coordinate the interest of all parties,put the interest of the masses in the first place and fully realize the interest of the people;how to break through the barriers of ideas,the barriers of interest consolidation to realize the common interest of society and how to build a community of shared future for all humankind and better safeguard national interest.In the middle of the 19 th century,Marx and Engels developed thoughts on interest in the process of exploring the law of social development and capitalist movement,which is of great theoretical and practical significance for us to understand and study this important subject today.Based on Marx and Engels’ text,this paper focuses on the following topics to do research on Marx and Engels’ thought on interest and its contemporary enlightenment: First,where did Marx and Engels’ thought on interest come from? Second,what is Marx and Engels’ thought on interest about? Third,what enlightenment does Marx and Engels’ thought on interest give to the contemporary society?Besides the Introduction part,this paper is divided into three parts: The first part is about the formation of Marx and Engels’ thoughts on interest.It includes: First,go back to the era in which Marx and Engels lived and probe into the background of the birth of Marx and Engels’ thoughts on interest.Second,explore the theoretical source of Marx and Engels’ interest thought from the perspective of historical development of human social science.Finally,the paper expounds the theoretical basis of Marx and Engels’ s interest thought.It fully demonstrates the necessity and scientificity of the formation of Marx and Engels’ thoughts on interest.The second part is the main part of research on Marx and Engels’ thoughts on interest.In chapter 3,it analyzes Marx and Engels’ discourse on modern society and the category of interest.Marketization,industrialization and globalization are the main characteristics of modern society.Under the comprehensive effect of industrialization,marketization and globalization,the interest has been upgraded to the governance of people.In chapter 4,it expounds the relationship between interest and state,society and individual.The state is the product of interest conflicts.The state is also the community of realizing the common interest,the motive force of social development,and the foundation of individual thought and morality.Chapter 5 is about Marx and Engels’ thoughts on the interest of the majority,the Communists,and socialism.The Party of proletarian always represents the interest of the majority.Criticizing all kinds of reactionary thoughts of capitalism and the interest conflict of capitalism in reality,Marx and Engels constructed the scientific socialism and proposed the ways to realize the interest of the majority.The third part is about the contemporary enlightenment of Marx Engels’ thoughts on interest.First,we should have a profound understanding of the interest of the socialist modernization drive with Chinese characteristics,correctly understand the current differences and contradictions of interest,attach importance to material interest,and insist on the use of interest analysis to deal with problems.Second,realizing the interest of the people is the original intention and mission of the Communists.In our modernization drive,we should put the interest of the people in the first place,adhere to the road of common prosperity,and strengthen the leadership of the party in an all-round way,so as to realize,safeguard and develop the interest of the people.Third,the realization of the common interest of society must give full play to the advantages of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics.We must safeguard our national interest.
