Power Anomie In University Field Of China From The Perspective Of Relational Sociology

The orderly and standardized operation of university power and university field power is the eternal value pursuit of higher education management research.Although a university is a highly rational organization,the power of the university field sometimes escapes from the "institutional cage",and the university governance,which takes standardizing the power operation as the core and whose local meaning is not fully explored,tends to be "internalized" to a certain extent.Based on analyzing the current situation of power anomie,through introducing the theoretical perspective of relational sociology,this doctoral dissertation analyzes the characteristics,nature,process,mechanism and countermeasures of power anomia induced by Guanxi in university field,reveals the germinal mechanism of power anomie in university field,verifies the explanatory power of relational sociology in the research of higher education management,and explores the possible ways to study the inner power of universities from the micro dimension.First of all,power anomie in university field has certain particularity,which is manifested in the following aspects: the compound nature of power anomie subjects in university field,which is highlighted in the fact that the power subject is a complex of academic power and administrative power;the higher degree of concealment of power anomie behavior,which is highlighted by the relatively small number of power anomie exposure caused by emotional Guanxi;the more far-reaching abnormal "demonstration effect" of power anomie,which not only has a larger scope of influence,but also has a wider degree of influence.Secondly,the essence of power anomie induced by Guanxi in university field is the process that the power subject in university field is influenced by alienated Guanxi orientation,and then produces the power values or power behavior in violation of social value norms,moral norms or legal norms.Chinese people’s social behavior is characterized by typical "Guanxi orientation",which not only lays the social and cultural environment and mental foundation of Guanxi behavior,but also has a profound influence on the interactive behavior in the university field through edification,"discipline" and "demonstration".The original purpose of Guanxi orientation is to realize the relationship harmony and social stability of traditional Chinese society through the self-coordinating mechanism of individuals to interpersonal relationships.However,the "alienated Guanxi orientation" means that the power subject’s Guanxi orientation is actively alienated into a power idea,or that the power subject’s Guanxi orientation is alienated into a power strategy due to the influence of others,which is manifested as self-induced power anomie and induced power anomie respectively.Thirdly,the process of power anomie induced by Guanxi in university field is embodied in the basic evolutionary logic of Guanxi establishment,Guanxi advancement,Guanxi alienation and influencing decision-making.Actors usually establish ties with others in the way of particularism,and take differentiated interaction law as the basic principle of communicative action.As the main means of establishing ties,banquets and gifts manifest their instrumental functions in the process of power anomie.And as a special medium to establish ties,the middleman plays a unique role of "relay station","catalyst" and "silencer".The Guanxi between the power subject and the requestor is constantly evolving and upgrading under the action of the three mechanisms of quasi kinship,request-return interaction and trust and mutual-trust cycle.In the mental game of power subjects,quasi kinship becomes an important factor of power anomie.Guanxi influences or even changes the actors’ power behavior by shaping the interaction situation,affecting the interaction law and the decision tendency.Therefore,Guanxi operation integrated with power is a special and important factor that induces power anomie in Chinese universities.Fourthly,from the perspective of relational sociology,the germinal mechanisms of power anomie in university field include: the interaction situation shaped by Guanxi is the external thrust of power anomie;alienated Guanxi orientation is the internal driving force to induce power anomie;the production and reproduction of relations constitute an interactive system of power anomie,which involves the power subjects and the relationship objects in a "siphon" way;the supply capacity and quality of written rules related to power operation are relatively weak,which objectively creates the institutional space of power anomie.Finally,from the perspective of relational sociology,the avoidance and governance of power anomie in university field cannot be solved by institutional means alone,for beyond institutions is the interaction of culture,tradition and habitus.Therefore,only through the whole society’s deep experience and awareness of Guanxi can we really understand it rationally;only by relying on the educational function of university culture,can we effectively build a clean,honest and efficient power ecology;only by strengthening the institutional construction of Guanxi can we maximize the elimination of the institutional space in which Guanxi intervenes in the operation of power.
