Relational aggression refers to the manipulation of interpersonal relationships to intentionally harm another person physically or psychologically, and has received increasing attention from researchers as a more insidious and destructive form of aggression that is different from physical aggression.Although both are subtypes of relational aggression, there are significant differences between proactive aggression and reactive aggression, which can be classified according to different initiation intentions. However, the existing scales cannot distinguish the different motives of intimate relationship aggression, and accurate measurement is the basis of testing relational aggression. At present, inconsistent results have been found in the research on how power affects relational aggression, and there are few direct studies on relational power and relational aggression in the past, most of them stay on simple correlation effects.Given that there is no established research instrument to distinguish between the two types of aggression in China, and the Romantic Relational Aggression Motivation Scale(RRAM)developed by Clifford(2016)has good reliability and validity, this study revised the RRAM using a group of Chinese college students as subjects, and used a cross-sectional research design to analyze the characteristics of current college students’ relational aggression and discuss the underlying mechanisms of its effects with related variables. This study consists of two studies, the first study is the revision of the Romantic Relationship Aggression Motivation Scale(RRAM).The RRAM was translated into Chinese according to the standardized procedure, and four additional questions were added by referring to the Dating Relationship Aggression Subscale of Relational Aggression Scale(Ellis,Crooks,& Wolfe,2009)to conduct the popularity test and form the preliminary questionnaire.A survey was carried out on 572 college students selected from a university in Sichuan Province and the network platform. The project analysis and exploratory factor analysis were mainly carried out.On this basis,a 12-item questionnaire was formed.460 college students completed the retest questionnaire. After the same analysis,a 12-item three-dimensional RRAM formal questionnaire was formed.563 formal questionnaires were issued through the network platform to test the reliability and validity. The primary application of the Romantic Relationship Aggression Motivation Scale(RRAM)was studied.403 college students participated in the survey.First, descriptive analysis of relational aggression and differences in demographic variables were carried out. Then,we examine the mediating role of self-concern between relational power and relational aggression. In this study,SPSS 25.0 and Mplus 7.4 were used to carry out item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, independent sample test, variance analysis, mediation effect analysis, etc. The results show that:(1)Four items were added to the revised romantic relationship Aggression Motivation Scale(RRAM)among Chinese college students. After exploratory factor analysis, four items were deleted. The remaining12 items were well fitted, and the three-dimensional structure was consistent with the original questionnaire.(2)The revised Chinese version of RRAM has good reliability, validity and popularization, and can be used as an effective tool to measure the level and motivation of intimate relationship aggression of college students.(3)Among college students, female students’ the withdrawal of active love and the withdrawal of reactive love are higher than that of boys. There was no significant difference in relational aggression at grade level. The proactive love withdrawal, reactive love withdrawal and social sabotage of rural college students were higher than those of urban college students.College students who had been in a relationship for 12 to 18 months reported significantly higher rates of proactive and reactive love withdrawal than college students who had been in a relationship for any other period of time.(4)Self-focused Attention had a partial mediating effect between relational power and proactive love withdrawal. |
