| The spatial evolution of urban manufacturing often face problems such as limited development space, tightening land elements, and homogenization of industrial structure. The key to promoting a qualitative spatial evolution of the urban manufacturing industry is guiding its spatial evolution to adapt to the regional integration progress.Given the unclear effects of regional integration on the spatial and temporal evolution of manufacturing in central cities, this study clarifies the mechanisms of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan regional integration and analyses its impacts on the spatial-temporal characteristics of manufacturing evolution in Changsha.Specifically, the study has constructed a spatial database and an industry identification system of manufacturing industries.Firstly,it analyzed the spatial-temporal evolution characteristics of ChangshaZhuzhou-Xiangtan regional integration and Changsha manufacturing industry.Second,it used a negative binomial regression model to identify the key regional factors that influenced the spatial evolution of Changsha manufacturing industry and analyzed the mechanism of action. Finally,it has proposed a strategy to optimize the spatial layout of the Changsha manufacturing industry adapted to the regional integration process. Finally, the spatial layout optimization strategy of Changsha manufacturing industry adapts to the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan regional integration process. The methodology is based on “data and methods-feature analysismechanism analysis-planning suggestions”.Firstly,“data and method”: the study applied land-use data and other information to analyze the spatial-temporal changes in industrial land in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan region from 1978 to 2020.It also used Python to extract the manufacturing enterprises point of interest(POI)overlayed with the land-use data to identify the spatial dynamics of the “31double-digit industries” in region.Second,“feature analysis”: it used spatial connection strength analysis, circle analysis, sector analysis, hotspot analysis, and kernel density estimation to analyze the spatialtemporal characteristics of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan regional integration and Changsha manufacturing industry.Thirdly,“mechanism analysis”: the study has constructed a four-dimensional index system of“spatial integration + economic integration + factor integration +institutional integration” to calculate the strength of various indicators on the spatial evolution of various manufacturing industries through the Negative binomial regression. The study then draws a mechanism map of regional integration and its spatial effects on manufacturing industries.Fourth,“planning strategy”: considering the current spatial problems of Changsha manufacturing industry and medium-to-long-term development strategy of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan,and according to the“mechanism map of regional integration on the spatial evolution of manufacturing industry in the city”,the study proposes spatial optimization strategies for Changsha manufacturing industry in terms of spatial integration, economic integration, factor integration, and institutional integration. The main conclusions are as follows: First, the influences of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan regional integration on the spatial evolution of Changsha manufacturing industry are the joint outcomes of spatial, economic, element and institutional factors.Among these, institutional integration is the main driving factor influencing the spatial evolution of Changsha manufacturing industry.Second, regrading the integration of different types of manufacturing, the main influencing factors for laborintensive,technology-intensive,and capital-intensive industries are spatial integration, institutional integration, and factor integration, respectively. Moreover, the regional typology has a significant effect on labor-intensive manufacturing.Thirdly,in terms of integration indicators, ecological space, economic development, labor cost, industrialization level, population flow, technology flow, industrial park construction and strategic agreement are the main influencing factors for the spatial evolution of manufacturing industry, among them, ecological areas constrain the spatial expansion of manufacturing significantly. At the same time, the level of economic development, the population flow, the technology flow, and the construction of industrial park significantly promote the spatial expansion of manufacturing industry. This study has focused on the influence of regional integration on the spatial evolution of urban manufacturing industry. It has constructed a spatial identification method for the “31 types of two-digit industries”.The study revealed the impact of regional integration on the spatial-temporal evolution of the manufacturing industry in Changsha. This paper enriches the theories of Evolutionary Economic Geography while proposing a spatial optimization strategy for urban manufacturing industries adapted to the process of regional integration. |
