| Globalization increases market competition, making it crucial for enterprises to secure market position and gain a competitive edge, which has become their top priority.Innovation becomes crucial and compelling.Chinese manufacturing enterprises’ growth and competitiveness depend on their technological innovation.Economic volatility, regulatory changes, emergencies, and demand escalation have made VUCA a key supply chain term.Flexible supply chain strategies are needed to manage unexpected events in manufacturing. In this complex adaptive system, manufacturing enterprises must quickly comprehend market signals, acquire new knowledge, technologies, resources, and information to optimize flexibility and stimulate innovation.Supply chains and enterprise innovation researches emphasize relationship quality, concentration, stability. Most studies focus on the influence of static supply chain network on enterprises’ development, while dynamic social network drivers are researched.Overall studies pay attention to the individual organization rather than the dynamic supply chain network in which they are embedded. This study examines how supply chain network dynamism affects technological innovation using social network theory, knowledge and resource-related theory, and supply chain-related theory. This study first sets the research framework and three sub-researches.Both the supply chain network and the subordinate regional cooperative network are then investigated for evolution. This study concludes by explaining the samples, data, and variables analyzed.(1)The "external resources-internal capacity-technological innovation" research framework includes three substudies: node, edge, and structural hole changes.(2)When considering the evolutionary analysis of the supply chain network,it becomes evident that the network is characterized by numerous concentrated nodes,a variety of interconnected structural forms, multiple edges, and full of complexity and dynamism. The regional cooperative network shares similarities with the supply chain network, but it is focused on the geographical region.Guangdong Province,Jiangsu Province,Zhejiang Province hold significant roles within the regional cooperation network.(3)The study measures numerous variables related to manufacturing enterprises.According to the theory of complex adaptive systems, resource bases, and network embedding, supply chain node modifications reverse U-shaped affect manufacturing technology achievements. This is mostly done through knowledge acquisition and fund risk.Regional cooperation networks may also strengthen the inverse relationship between node changes and technological innovation.Node changes effect innovation in a reverse U-shaped pattern, mostly on the supplier side. However, customer changes are unhelpful for improving industrial innovation.Given the importance of adding new nodes with innovation ability or high centralization, eliminating nodes without innovation or low centralization can boost technological innovation. When paired with complex adaptive system analysis, social capital, transaction costs, and edges changes hurt manufacturing technical advancement.Because listed enterprises disclose their core customers or suppliers, edges changes might impair knowledge absorption and use, increase relationship costs, and hinder technological progress.Strong enterprise bargaining power can counteract this unfavorable effect.Edges changes hurt technological innovation, with customers suffering more than suppliers.High-tech innovation is less affected by edges changes than non-high-tech enterprises. The notion of structural holes and social capital theories show that supply chain network structure holes changes encourage knowledge integration and reduce financial constraints, boosting technological innovation.Cohesion in the inventor network can boost this effect.Structural holes adjustment affects high-tech enterprise technological innovation but not non-high-tech enterprises, suggesting they can use structural holes to gain benefits. This study found that transferring the central position to the structure hole position affects technological innovation positively, while the opposite direction does not.Innovation points of this study:(1)The dynamic changes in the supply chain network affecting technological innovation model has been constructed. The change in network nodes has a reverse U-type effect on technological innovation, while the change in network edges will be unbeneficial and the change in structural holes can drive innovation positively.(2)It created the IPO model of dynamic changes in the supply chain network affecting technological innovation, funds and knowledge are the two cornerstones, and the analysis framework of "external resources-internal capacity-technological innovation" has analyzed the mechanism between the two, enriching the social network theory, absorption capacity theory, and other related research for manufacturing.(3)It establishes a "multi-layer" network structure model, revealing the mechanism of internal and external cooperation networks influencing technological innovation. Most existing studies on the impact of cooperation networks on innovation only consider a single layer, ignoring the multi-layer structural characteristics of embedding. This study analyzes the cross-layer interaction of network embedding, providing theoretical guidance for enterprises’ technological innovation. |
