The thesis contains three chapters. The first chapter focuses on study of theestablishment of acetylcholesterase's inhibitor's screening model and the algal fractions'inhibitory activity to acetylcholesterase. The second chapter focuses on study of chemicalconstituents of red alga Plocamium telfairia. The third chapter is a brief review aboutresearches on bioactive constituents of seaweeds. Alzheimer's Disease(AD) is one of the fatal diseases in aging societies, whileacetylcholinesterase inhibitors are found to have the best clinic effect to cure AD.Seaweeds are important resource of marine drugs including some enzyme inhibitors. Sowe established acetylcholinesterase inhibitor screening model in vitro based on themethod of spectrophotography , and, for the first time, we evaluated the AchE inhibitoryactivity of 22 seaweeds collected from Qingdao coastline. The results indicated that allthe petroleum ether-soluble fractions of these seaweeds exhibited various degrees ofinhibitory activity in screening. Among these, Rhodomela confervoides, Plocamiumtelfairia, Symphyocladia latiuscula, and Ulva pertusa revealed high activity. For theethyl acetate-soluble fractions of these seaweeds, only Symphyocladia latiuscula andUlva pertusa exhibited remarkable inhibitory activity, most of the others did not showactivity or only have weak activity, while some even showed enhancing effect on thecontrary. On count of the results of antitumor activity screening and AChE inhibitory activityscreening, P. telfairia was chosen for further chemical constituents' research. Bycomprehensive use of phytochemical isolation methods, 37 compounds were isolated 5from the methnol-chloroform extract of P. telfairia, by methods of modern spectroscopy, six compounds' structures were elucidated, including 2 kinds of fatty acids, 2 kinds ofsterols and 2 kinds of are esters of sterol and fatty acids. Five of them were reported forthe first time on the chemical constituents' research of P. telfairia. Otherwise, weperformed GC-MS analysis of the volatile fraction in this extracts, the result revealedseveral constituents such as alkyl hydrocarbons and methyl esters of fatty acids. Thestructural elucidation of other compounds is still under progress.
