The plant Potentilla bifurca var.humilior is a variation of Potentilla bifurca L.which belongs to the genus Potentilla of Rosaceae.This plant is undersized than the protospecies,It spread on the ground,grow in hillside,bushwood,grassland,sand and the edge of the forest at the altitude of 2300~4500 m in Qinghai,Inner Mongolia,Shanxi,Ningxia,Xinjiang and Tibet.Most plants of this genus have medicinal and economic value,and always to be used for the resource of the ornamental plants,fodder,tanning material and dyestuff.In the earlier study,we discussed the effects of reducing blood glucose from Potentilla bifurca var.humilior,the result indicated this plant has a significant effect on reducing blood glucose.This paper studied on the chemical constituents of the whole herbs of Potentilla bifurca var.humilior.Twenty-eight compounds were obtained by using varied chromatographic methods and separation techniques These compounds refer to hydrolysable tannins,flavonol glycosides,phenolic acids phenylpropanoids and triterpene saponins,and so on.Smash the plant after it's dry.Extract with the petroleum ether and ethyl acetate after extract it with the 100% methanol,65? for 3 times,then separated compounds by the chromatography repeatly with the Sephadex LH-20,MCI-gel and RP-18.We got 25 compounds by using varied chromatographic methods and separation techniques and they are identified as: quercetin-3-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(1),quercetin-3-O-?-L-rhamnopyranoside(2),quercetin-3-O-?-D-glucuronopyranoside(3),aromadendrin(4),quercetin-?3-?O-?-D-?sophoroside(5),3,5-dyhydroxy-4-methoxybenzoic acid(6),myricetin(7),eriodictyol(8),tiliroside(9),tricetin 3'-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(10),gallic acid(11),kaempferol-3-O-?-Dglucuronopyranoside(12),quercetin-3-O-?-D-xylose(13),kaempferol(14),myricetin3'-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(15),(+)-catechin(16),3-O-galloylglucose(17),quercetin-?3-?O-?(6''-?O-?trans-p-?coumaroyl)?-??-?D-?glucoside(18),quercetin(19),methyl ester of rugosin A(20),arbutin(21),caffeic acid(22),chlorogenic acid(23),(-)-epicatechin(24),methyl gallate(25),1-O-coumaroyl-?-D-glucose(26),quercetin-3-glucosygalactoside(27),3,5,7-trihydroxy-4'-methoxyflavone(28).Compounds 4,6,8,10,17,25 were isolated from the Potentilla family for the first time,and all of the 28 compounds were obtained from the Potentilla bifurca var.humilior for the first time.The result of this study will provide supports for the further exploitation on this plant.
