At present, the fluid design is completed by means of hand by some technicians athome. The design results are different from one to another, and the quality can not beassured. It takes a long time to find the required information and to work out a fluiddesign report because the design data is stored on paper. With the development of thetechnology in oil drilling, how to make full use of the design cases and fluid informationwhich have been accumulated in the past, is focused by the experts and the managers inorder to share the information, to avoid working repeatedly, to cut down expenses and towork out the scheme efficiently. The properties of artificial intelligence in the engineering was researched in thepaper. In addition, the written program of the optimization of the drilling fluid designwill be introduced in the paper. The achievement is described as following: (1) Gathering the information according to some rules and developing thedata-bases of the cases and the formulas about the drilling fluids (2) Writing the program of the management of the two data-bases (3) In accord with the technology of the drilling fluid design, realizing theoptimization design of drilling fluid on base of case-based and rule-based reason. (4) Developing the assistant system about drilling fluid design, such as theintroduction of the basic knowledge of the drilling fluid and the calculation duringmaking drilling fluid.
