On The Fusion Of Science And Humanities

The relationship between science and humanities is an essential cultural problem that modern humans are faced with. There are not only opposition between the two for the time being but also agreement in terms of their origins and their ultimate results. The opposition between the two is due to the following reasons: the individuals live by means of humanity, creating a meaningful world yet having not achieved free and comprehensive development, which is an inevitable phenomenon of the stage. To clarify the relational levels between science and humanities, to understand the different characteristics of different relational levels, to decrease the negative effect of the opposition between the two as possible as we can, to facilitate the healthy development of science and humanities, and thus to achieve the development of human's comprehensive development and social progress is both theoretically and practically significant.The thesis begins with the discussion of the concepts of science and humanities. Basing on the philosophical perspective of "science masters the rules of nature, humanities masters the rules of moral", the thesis analyzes the current differences, misunderstandings and conflicts between science and humanities; it also tries to explore the origins of them. It illustrates the relationship between the two as "of the same origin that grow together and with mutual integration, of some difference that supplement each other and with mutual consistence". The conclusion comes out that the fusion of science and humanities is the definite trend as time goes on. In the end, the thesis reviews the process of theoretical evolvement and practical exploration of the simultaneous development of science and humanities. It points out that the cultivation of the public attainment about science and technology is an important strategy of promoting the communication between science and humanities. And that to introduce STS contents into the basic education is a practical way of realizing the cultivation of attainment about science and technology ethics.
