The urban underground pipeline geographical information system whose object is the pipeline management is based on geographical information system (called GIS for short) which has the ability of spatial analysis. With the background graph of the pipeline, and by taking advantage of advanced oracle spatial database technology and genetic algorithms theory, it implements the visible computer management of pipeline, so that it can supply accurate information of pipeline network, such as tendency and depth, and by using spatial index and spatial database, it will do good for city construction and pipeline rebuilding. This system achieves the incorporate storage of spatial data and property data, and also the bidirectional lookup, using oracle spatial technology. What is more, it realizes the functions of pipeline spatial analysis, with advanced genetic algorithms. In this paper, firstly the present status and the problems are introduced, and then the problems to be resolved in this paper and the value of the research are discussed. This paper introduces the data structure of the pipeline and the design scheme of the system, including the function and database design etc in detail, and also it gives the theory of spatial database and genetic algorithms, meanwhile it explains the implement methods of the main functions. At last, the summary and prospect of the system are made. By using various modern technologies in together and the development principles of robust, useful, extendable, security and economic in the process of the system's design and realization, it implements the functions such as pipeline graph management, spatial query and analysis. Finally the system improves the efficiency and quality of the pipeline management.
