Recently , the shoal sea area become a new domain of resource exploration ,especially the oil, and the gradually use of GPS (Global Positioning System) brings revolutionary changes of the shoal sea exploration navigation method. Especially, the introduction and the use of the difference technique develop exploration navigation method of the shoal sea. The physical exploration navigation system for the shoal sea is a integrated system which uses GPS, data-base, computer and communications and other techniques. The main task of this system is to dispose lines according to the need of the project, calculate the data, display the position of the survey ship timely, judge the status of current position, give an alarm automatically, register the data, excitated FixBox and output data using user-defined or SPS format. The function of this system also includes displaying three-dimension benthal terrain, track design, register, review, measuring the distance and the acreage. This paper which bases on this project systematically discusses some orientation methods, which including GPS, inertial navigation, radio fix and so on, data communication which bases on RSR-232 protocol, NEMA0183 data protocol and extract based on VB. The paper also analyses ACCESS data-base technique which this system uses and the process of display three-dimension terrain using OpenGL function package. Finally, the physical exploration navigation system for the shoal sea—HydroOffice which is brought into effect in practical project is developed by using these techniques.
