General physics is the natural science which studies the most general laws concerning the material structure, the interactions of the objects and the motion of the objects in nature. Its divisions are mechanics, optics, electromagnetic, thermology, atomic physics, etc. whose basic theories and laws all come from the practice and the experiments. General physics teaching is based on the experiments and the practice, and the experiment teaching plays crucial roles in general physics teaching. General physics teaching in the colleges and universities are not only the foundation of the specialties of the physics majors, but also the important way to establish the students'views on the science and nature, and the universe as well as the world views of dialectical materialism. Moreover, it is beneficial to cultivate their innovative spirits and develop their scientific thinking abilities.Experiment teaching in general physics is the important part of general physics teaching. The course is made up of preliminary experiment, basic experiment, comprehensive experiment and designed experiment, and they form the system of the experiment course by progressing step by step from the low level to the high one, from the foundation to the advancing front, and from the absorption of knowledge to the cultivation of the ability. The teaching content is the experiment course of general physics, the objective is to make the students further understand and master the basic theories of physics and develop their practice and innovation, and the chief form is the operation by the students, so experiment teaching is playing more and more important roles in the process of the quality education.The paper researches on the teaching content, teaching methods, teachers'strength, construction and management of the laboratories and teaching assessment in order to expose the problems in general physics experiment teaching in newly-constructed 4-year colleges and universities, and puts forward the corresponding strategies to contribute to teaching general physics experiments.Through the investigation of the teaching situation of the general physics experiments in four newly-constructed colleges and universities of Shandong Province, it is found that there exist chiefly the following problems: 1. The teaching content: it is old and in low level; the textbooks of the course are not complete; there is no good connection between the general physics experiments at colleges and universities and the physics experiments at middle schools. 2. The teaching method: there are such problems as the monotonous teaching method and the backward teaching means. 3. The teaching strength: that of the newly-constructed colleges and universities is weak. 4. The construction and management of the laboratories: the management system is old-fashioned, there is lack of the investment and they are not fully used. 5. The teaching assessment: the test method of the experiments is monotonous, the test content is too dependent on the texts, there are too much common nature in terms of the test types, and the teaching assessment models and system should be improved.As for the above problems, the writer puts forward some corresponding strategies : to adjust the course structure reasonably, perfect the content of the experiment textbooks, and connect the general physics experiments at colleges and universities and the physics experiments at middle schools to optimize the teaching content of the general physics experiments; to employ elicitation, exploration and designing teaching to construct the new teaching model; to reform the management system, complete the management regulations, perform open teaching by means of modern educational technological media, and renew the teaching content continuously to establish the perfect supporting measures; to have a full understanding of the important roles of the general physics experiment teachers in physics teaching, strengthen the improvement of the teachers'comprehensive quality, and establish a harmonious and competitive experimental circumstance to improve the teachers'comprehensive quality; to cultivate the notions of scientific testing, enrich the testing forms, design the innovative paper tests, construct a new teaching assessment model and system to realize the reform of general physics experiment teaching.
