Higher mathematics is an important cultural basic course, as well as an indispensable major course in many specialistic training programs in vocational and technical colleges. It plays an important role for students to learn subsequent course and to cultivate mathematics thinking ability. However, as people are not well acquainted to its role and function for higher vocational education, those teaching goal, content, method, mode, and examination form are still remained in common technological academy level. There is a lack of course syllabus which can reflect the characteristics of higher vocational education, so does its teaching materials. In this case, it is very hard to meet the requirements of other relevant courses, especially engineering technology. As a result, the following problems are lying in front of higher vocational educators, that is how to innovate the teaching system and mode in vocational and technical colleges, thus to let those students who has a poor fundament of elementary mathematics get rid of the fear of higher mathematics, and how to make them use the way of mathematics to observe the surroundings and to analyze and solve practical problems.This essay mainly discusses the following questions: Firstly, the comprehensive analysis on the current situations and development trends of higher vocational education at home and abroad; Secondly, investigation on the requirements for higher mathematics course of relevant specialty course in vocational and technical colleges, and make researches on mathematics teaching contents and methods to explore the innovation frame of mathematics course, thus to construct and implement the new course teaching system; Thirdly, explore the reform of teaching method and teaching means in higher vocational mathematics course; Fourthly, explore the reform of the higher vocational mathematics examination form.The innovation points in this essay: aimed at problems existing in mathematics teaching in vocational and technical colleges, and on the basis of researching training objective and the principles which mathematics teaching should follow, this essay explores the reform of mathematics course to construct the new course system suitable for vocational and technical colleges' characteristic, and probe into the teaching methods, teaching means and examination ways which can be adopted to vocational and technical colleges, and its implementation in practice.There are six parts in this essay:Part one: Introduction. It has been a key problem for vocational and technical colleges' teachers to develop and innovate the higher mathematics teaching systems and mode. In this part, it also discusses the background, meaning, content, idea and method of this issue.Part two: The comprehensive analysis on the current situation and developing trend of vocational and technical colleges. It mainly focuses on its origin and development, and presents a general picture of international vocational education as well as its inspiration to us. In the meantime, it shows the innovation achievements of vocational education in China.Part three: Research and practice on the higher mathematics course reforming of vocational education. This part is the most important of the whole essay. It main deals with how to correctly comprehend the principle "applying goes first while suitable is enough", and how to correctly understand its role and function in specialty teaching plan; It expounds several relationship which we should properly deal with in the higher mathematics course reform, and the two extremes needing to be avoided; This essay puts forward thinking and scheme of constructing the new higher mathematics teaching system through surveying and practicing.Part four: The exploration of higher mathematics' teaching method and its means.Part five: Research of reforming the higher mathematics examination form.Part six: A couple of thoughts and conclusion.
