Qualitative spatial reasoning that is generated by combining qualitative reasoning, spatial reasoning [1] and artificial intelligence (AI) has been a hotspot in the research of AI. Qualitative spatial reasoning analyzes and processes the human cognition of geometric spatial common knowledge. As an important component of the spatial relations,spatial direction relation on one hand is the security of the establishment of GIS database, spatial features of the storage, extraction, query and update operations, on the other hand it provides the basis for spatial analysis and decision-making. Therefore, the representation and reasoning of spatial direction relationship among spatial objects is very important.In geographical space, spatial direction relation is a kind of spatial relation which is more extensive and closer to people's lives compared to topological relations.So it should occupy a more important position and play a bigger role in the field of spatial information. However, experts obtain little production about direction relations than topological relations research, and there is scarcely any application applying spatial direction relations into GIS software. At present, more and more users are unsatisfied with the simple functions, such as graph query, plotting, so powerful spatial analysis is demanded for GIS in more projects in order to provide exact and timely decision for manager, the GIS component with direction reasoning functions is instant demand for GIS development.Based on 2-dimensional spatial objects and its spatial projection model D14,and profound analysis for representation and reasoning of qualitative spatial relations, this paper proceeds with some originality innovation researches as follows:â‘ Build a model of spatial direction knowledge databaseThis paper discusses the composition of the knowledge database.and divides spatial knowledge database into knowledge rules and knowledge of the environment the two parts. The Paper further discusses the amount of knowledge environment Knowledge and reasoning ability, and Prove that the relevant conclusions.â‘¡Extract spatial direction Qualitative knowledgeThis paper discusses a method of extract direction relations qualitative knowledge from spatial database. The method includes extraction from spatial databases and calculation of spatial relationships among spatial objects.This paper also gives the corresponding algorithm and examples of getting spatial direction knowledge.â‘¢The GIS component development based on Spatial direction reasoningMake use of spatial direction relations combinative table reasoning technology and spatial direction relations hierarchy reasoning technology, design out the GIS component PRC(Point Reason Component)and ARC(Area Reason Component)which based on spatial direction reasoning.The researches in this paper enrich and expand the theories for spatial knowledge database, and expand the application range of qualitative spatial reasoning in GIS. These researches provide a feasible path for improving analysis and processing capability of spatial information, and accelerate the development of intelligent GIS.
