In this paper, we synthesized seven ligands (five of them are new triazole ligands) and seven silver and copper complexes which are characterized by element analyses, IR spectra, 1HNMR. In addition, the structures of seven silver, copper complexes were determined by X-Ray diffraction.The seven ligands are:3,5-dim-tolyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole (m-meph-tzH)3,5-dio-tolyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole (o-meph-tzH)3,5-bis(3,4-dimethylphenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (3,4-dimeph-tzH)3,5-bis(3,5-dimethylphenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (3,5-dimeph-tzH)3,5-bis(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (p-ethph-tzH)3,5-bis(4-ethylphenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (p-tbuph-tzH)3,5-bis(4-bromophenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (p-Brph-tzH)The seven complexes are:[Ag(m-meph-tz)(CH3OH)1/3]n (1)[Ag(3,4-dimeph-tz)(CH3CH2OH)1/3]n (2)[Ag(p-tbuph-tz)]n (3){[Ag6(3,5-dimeph-tz)6(NH3)2](CH3OH)2(CH3CH2OH)} (4)[Cu(3,5-dimeph-tz)]n (5)[Ag(m-meph-tz)6/7(NO3)1/7]n (6)[Ag(o-meph-tz)3/4(NO3) 1/4]n (7) The complexes are divided into three types based on structural study:1. Hexnuclear complex. {[Ag6(3,5-dimeph-tz)6(NH3)2](CH3OH)2(CH3CH2 OH)}(4). The structure of complex 4 is composed of [Ag5L6]-1 culster and an additional as atom.2. One dimensional chain polymer. [Cu(3,5-dimeph-tz)]n (5). The structure of complex 5 is linear chain configuration. The SBU in complex 5 is [Cu5L6]- . Two N4 atoms of the triazole rings are coordinated with peripheral copper (â… ) atoms to construct one dimension chain. 3. Two-dimensional strcture. [Ag(o-meph-tz)3/4(NO3)1/4]n(7). All the N atoms in the triazole rings could be used to coordinate to peripheral silver atoms.4. Polymer Coordinations. [Ag(m-meph-tz)(CH3OH)1/3]n(1), [Ag(3,4-dimeph-tz)(CH3CH2OH)1/3]n (2), [Ag(p-tbuph-tz)]n(3), [Ag(m-meph-tz)7/6(NO3)1/7]n (6). Complex 1 and complex 2 are very similar in structure. Both of them have the SBU of [Ag4L6]2-. Four of the six N4 atoms of SBU are coordinated with peripheral silver atoms. The SBU in 3 is [Ag6Lg]2-. Four N4 atoms are coordinated with peripheral silver atoms to form 3D net polymer. Complex 6 contained the SBU of [Ag4L6]-2. Four N4 atoms of the triazole rings are coordinated with peripheral silver (â… ) atoms to construct 3D polymer. Based on the results of our study, we draw the following conclusions:1. The substituent at 3,5-position of triazole is one of the important determinants to dicate the structure of Ag(â… )-triazole complexes. With different structures SBUs will be obtained when change the shape and the size of the substitute groups. We found all or part of N4 atoms in the SBUs could be used to coordinate to peripheral silver atoms.2. The substituent at 3,5-position of triazole play a part in building of copper complexs with 3,5-diaryl-1,2,4-triazole. When change the shape and the size of the substituent groups, we can obtain the SBU with different structures.
